I dont know about you but when I need prayer and a Oneness person is not immediatly available I will have someone call on Jesus regardless.

Absolutely!I have friends (some right her on AFF) that honestly believe that God does not hear the prayers of those who have not followed the 3 step plan of salvation. That kind of thinking baffles me.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: Lutheran Pastor Apologizes For Praying

As to the hyopthetical situation question envolving a car wreck I would pray and pay no regard to the muslim. The difference here is i am not chooseing my surroundings. I did not choose the setting but in the other i am chooseing to go and be a part of an interfaith setting. All the pastor would have neede to have done inorder to show the Love of Christ is have a separate prayer vigil on another evening.

2Corinthians 6:14-18
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

As to Elijah and the Prophets of baal first it should be pointed out that it was only done to show God's power and that baal was not a god at all, Second it should be noted how that prayer meeting ended for the pagans then come back and lets talk abut tolerance.

Re: Lutheran Pastor Apologizes For Praying

Im sorry, but it is absolutely ludicrous to think that the Pastor was unequally yolked with non-believers, that is a scripture totally taken out of context in this instance. He was being compassionate to those that most needed compassion. He was reaching out in a time of great need. He WAS DOING EXACTLY what JESUS would have done! I watched the vigil and I never once HEARD him agree with anyone else or preach any other Gospel. There were many faiths represented in the room and He was doing His part to bring comfort!

Re: Lutheran Pastor Apologizes For Praying

I do not doubt that he may have been trying to bring comfort but as i said earlier he could have had a separate prayer vigil where all were welcome but only christian prayers offered.
That passage did bear meaning on that situation for it deals with christians and pagans:

15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Re: Lutheran Pastor Apologizes For Praying

Again, thats doesn't apply either. He was invited to an event that was specifically for the propose to offer comfort to others. It wasn't A CHURCH service or even a religious rally. It was a time for people of a community whither Christian or other to come together in support of each other in a time of grief and loss.

Re: Lutheran Pastor Apologizes For Praying

I see nothing wrong with joining in prayer with people with whom i may not agree with on every point of doctrine but to go to a place and join in an event where other (idols) gods(false) are recognized and being prayed to. Is not right.

Re: Lutheran Pastor Apologizes For Praying

Luke, How isn't it right? I could see your point had the Pastor recognized any false god in his prayer but He didn't. He was simply there to minister and live out his calling to reach out to those in need.
