LOL! One time I was listening to her and she mentioned something about I Cor not meaning you can't cut your hair. You could hear a pin drop throughout the whole arena. I was surprised that people weren't really sure if they believed that or not. It shows that people want to make up their own minds and take the Word more seriously than we think.

Anyway, I was listening to some worship videos and saw the link, so I clicked it. I don't normally listen to her, but at least she doesn't scream. I can't stand women speakers who scream.

I read her book, some years ago, Seven Things that Steal Your Joy. I don't recall ever reading a book where I felt so much peace in my spirit. I was rather surprised. I was thinking, "It is really possible to feel joy on this earth." That was outside of being in the presence of God we feel when we pray.

I guess this is hijacking this thread, but yesterday I had forgotten about a song I listened to, a few years ago, when I was going through the worst and darkest time in my life - Set Me Free by Casting Crowns. I thought that death would be better than life. When I heard it yesterday, I thought, "Oh my goodness, I am totally free." I had forgotten how dark it really felt for me. God is good!

As with my Dad there is nothing he can say. He gushes about his church and whats going on and try and tell him about ours and he could care less. He sends me preaching CD's and I put them in the draw and give them back when I see him. Oh well!

And giving a praise report is never hijacking a thread is is giving glory to God!!!! Don't you love it when you can look back and see victory? God is good!

Re: 88 Benefits to Receiving the Spirit

This isn't directed at you, Navy, just questions I have.

With all these benefits listed, including the direct ties to salvation...why would anyone shy away from the Holy Ghost (or for those more contemporary and refined, the Holy Spirit)? It's what gives us power. How can someone be saved and not have the power of the Holy Ghost inside of them? It's like receiving the gift of a brand, new sports car...with nothing under the hood. Looks great, but nothing to give it power.

I have some dear friends who are HG filled mind you, but they cringe at any message that is preached about receiving the Holy Ghost....especially on the necessity of receiving the Holy Ghost.

I just don't understand why people are afraid of the Holy Ghost.

This reminds of something Papa George used to say.

"I dont know why anyone would want to go to heaven without the Holy Ghost"

Well, I personally would rather someone really believe in what they believe and not be a squish. I can respect that more. Your dad gives me the impression he can't fathom another way to believe. I don't call that stubborn any more than I think you are stubborn in what you believe.

Yes, a praise report is good. And now that my husband made the decision on a major change for us, I am feeling much, much better.

Re: 88 Benefits to Receiving the Spirit

I wonder if Jesus enjoyed all 88 benefits?

Luk 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

I ain't even gonna ask about Him speaking in tongues when He 'got' the Holy Ghost.

So Jesus was baptized by one spirit into his own body? Jesus was washed, sanctified ,and justified ...by the spirit of our God?

but we already have a thread on that subject , so let's stay on the topic of this thread.

These verses have really brought me closer to the Lord of late. It's hard to stay focused on ones problems when confronted with all of this shouting material!!

I don't know any Christians that believe you don't need the Holy Ghost.

Speaking in tongues is a different issue...
