Re: would like some proven health advice

I rode bikes about 4 miles yesterday and spent 20 minutes on an excercise bike that morning. Repeating exercise routine again today. My energy level has increased this week and no heart burn last couple of nights. One problem is that it seems my appetite has increased because of the burning of more calories. I am not working harder so I can just eat more and stay where I am at. Is there any tricks to curbing appetite or is it just something we have to put up with? I don't want to go around feeling hungry all of the time. I can be disciplined and not eat too much or too often, but don't like the craving.

ya there are more than one factor that might cause cravings; nutrition level of food consumed is one, activity level, etc. Toned muscles require energy, and if you are hungry you should be able to eat nutritious food without gaining weight. But if you are already intestinally compromised, and are craving sugar, likely with less muscle tone, eating junk will make you fat. So you might observe what it is you are craving for a clue.

Re: would like some proven health advice

Over all yesterday I feel like I ate decent. With the exception that my wife went grocery shopping and brought home some garden salsa sun chips. I love those things. I could set down and eat a whole bag. Breads and potatoes are what kills me. Pasta, chips, sandwiches, etc. are some of my favorite things to eat. I have had to acquire a taste for vegetables, but as a kid growing up I didn't eat anything good. Now that I am older, I am having to make myself eat my greens (especially for my kids). Junk food was all I ate growing up and it is hard as an adult to change those patterns especially when some vegetables literally make me gag.

I hear ya!

Help with veggies: Salad is da bomb.

Buy frozen or fresh, never canned.

Eat raw as much as possible.

Breads and pastas are hard to back off from, trust me I know. lol

It takes awhile getting used to a new menu, but if you up the meats and lower the starches, after awhile you will probably find you prefer less carbs. You'll discover they actually make you feel sluggish and blah if you binge on them. I never realized that until I had gone about two or three weeks low carb high protein, and then ate a bunch of breads and noodles. I felt drugged, actually. I realized that used to be my normal condition! It just feels better to keep the carbs in check.

I still demand a baked potato with my steak, though! Steak and potatoes are what we'll be eating in glory, I just know it...

I have always heard if a diet is to miserable a person won't last. I am not trying to go off the deep end, but if I can watch my portions and do a better job with the types of food I eat then maybe I can develop a good diet routine I can live with.

an issue there is that so much of our food has been corrupted in the name of preservation. Our wheat has been stripped to the white; even "whole wheat" is a joke. Our potatoes are chosen for shelf life, not nutrition, resulting in a higher carb model. Corn and soy are both detrimental in very high doses, and they are both in everything. These are what encourage candida, at which point you are no longer getting enough nutrition from even good foods, as you lack the flora to digest it properly. So you get cravings, which = gimme sugar, simple carbs, to reinforce the loop.

More or less, if you are eating from a package with a nationally known brand name on it, beware. I'm hardly a veggie freak either, so i found sugar snaps for easy roughage; but i eat beans a lot, too. If you keep a pot of beans around, and eat them whenever you have cravings instead of whatever, in a year you would not be worrying about a spare tire any more. If you think you don't like beans, you are prolly not putting enough pork in them.

Re: would like some proven health advice

Beans are good for the most part. I would rather meats than vegetables, but ironically I plant a large garden every year. This year a little lady in our church wanted a garden, but her older age prevented her from it. She and our church decided that on her five acres we would plant a large church garden. We have about every vegetable you can think of planted. Some of it I don't even know what it is. I am one those strange people who like to know how to do things. I like to be self reliant. Gardening, raising livestock, etc. are all things I enjoy doing. I know the only way to really get something organic is to grow it or raise it yourself. I have even noticed that the local Amish store in our area has begun to process their foods like everyone else. I compared a label of their stuff to the stuff in our cabinets and even the Amish had those same crazy ingredients that you can't pronounce.

Re: would like some proven health advice

I got off of gluten and my cravings have disappeared.

It seems everything has gluten in it, but after you are off of gluten for a month you will not want to go back.

You feel that good!
