Abraham Lincoln and forward also had to deal with cultural issues like this when many refused to fight alongside a black man.
Exactly. There was a big uproar when woman began fighting too, wasn't there?

The truth is, there have always been gays in the military. I don't believe anyone should HAVE to tell, but if they choose to, I don't think they should be forced out. There is no reasoning that will ever make sense to me as to why they can't serve.

We can deal with each individual, just like we do in every other case, why is that so hard to understand?

If you are carrying an transmittable illness, sorry, you can't serve.
If you are behaving in an unseemly manner, sorry, you're out.
If you harass your fellow soldiers, sorry, you're out.
If you become ill for any reason, sorry, you're going home.

All of the above applies to gays, straights, bisexuals, dogs, cats, monkeys, whoever!!

I would imagine that would be a great cost also.

Pressing On was the one worried about the potential health care costs, not I.

A little about me. I was raised in the UPC. My family is still in the UPC. In fact, I have children being raised in the UPC and my father holds a license with the UPC.

There has been a lot discussion on here about whether being gay is a choice. Believe me, I wish it were! It is not a choice for me and never has been. I cannot tell you how many hours were spent in prayer and days spent in fasting asking, nay pleading, that this condition be taken from me.

I so hated what I was that I have tried suicide twice and been locked up in mental wards. It's only been in the last 10 years or so that I decided that if I were going to survive that I find a way to accept and even love myself.

There was no way I could make my religious training and my "choice" to be gay co-exist with each other and so one had to go by the way side as there is no room for my kind.

So there you have it.

What would you like to know NOW?
Thanks for posting. It is saddening to hear about the issues you have faced and continue to face, coming from a UPC background.

It will be nice to hear a different perspective on this.

It was a response to the cost (price tag) of them serving.

I don't think a unknown parameter is a viable reason, and making it about money is odd. To me.

War is ridiculously expensive all around. Does anyone disagree with that? Before, after and during. What is the answer? Do we stop? Probably not.

Aids is easily identifiable by a blood test. If you have aids, you can't serve...

LOL, I thought that my agreeing with you in my first statement would clarify that.

Sorry, I used the rest of my post to further my opinion, I should have just started a new one!

Sorry, sometimes it is hard for me to tell when reading text. There is no inflection or emotions to read, lol.

And who exactly did i refer to as having half a brain....no one to be exact....simply stated that even someone (referring to no one in particular) with half a brain could understand the insinuation.

NOW however accused me of having my mind in the gutter (actually calling me a name...gasp!!!)....which if past experience is any indication, he will get away with ....

In reality...I could care less what he or anyone else calls me....but I have been infracted for using the word apostate on this forum....it seems what is good for the goose should be good for the gander.....but I think NOW and others like him have immunity on this forum.

Which would explain why DA can get away with virtually murder and there are no consequences.

That is NOT what I was insinuating AT ALL, in any way whatsoever. If that had crossed my mind at all, I wouldn't have posted it because I don't believe that's fair to do that to anyone.

If you don't believe that, fine. But I was referring to Baron's thread and when the forum was down for a day.

thank you, thank you, thank you...!!!!

That is truly an honor.

Yes, DA and I are evil. Dead-man, if you'd like, I'll forward you PM's from Admin and their heated disapproval of some things I've said, along with posts of mine they've deleted.

I said the "Gutter" thing because I honestly hadn't thought of what you were saying, but you thought it. It was a light-hearted jab at you, that you were the one thinking it, not me.

If it was offensive to you, I apologize. More than almost anyone on this forum, you've been brutal to me and there's almost never even a remotely kind word from you to me. That seems to be the way we talk. But I wouldn't want to offend or hurt you.

Well, I did add "When I bother to care", which you didn't highlight, and which is pretty much, never. I love what you, and a few others, dish out to me and I wear it like a badge of honor. There are some people that I value approval from. You? I value your disapproval. If there's ever an issue on which we disagree, I will immediately change my viewpoint!
