They are blindly following a rule! That is it -- period!

EB,

I directed and produced a Oneness Pentecostal television program for almost a decade. Some of that time we were a national telecast on a major Christian network (Inspirational Network).

Not one time did the preacher ever wear any makeup. I think you are confusing filmmaking of dramas, etc with other type programming.

So do you think that football players and basketball players but on makeup before their games are televised? LOL!!!!

Way back in the 50's and 60's video cameras were so bad that many did wear makeup to make things look right, making up for what the bad TV cameras did. However that has not been true for about 30 years now.

A person could use makeup to hide a bad blemish or even out splotches or something but I think very few preachers you see on TV use makeup. (At least not the male ones!)

How can we overcome this deeply entrenched mindset and paradigm that seems to hinder the work of God rather than advance it?

The stats don't lie....but can they be admitted to?

I'll say it again...if I took a no TV stand...I could not justify allowing the Internet...but that's just me!

I have seen so many lies posted. The best one is the one Triumphant 1 did his best to combat. You know, the hair cutting party thing?

Prominent members of this board chose to believe the lie and even continue to spread it, even though T1 had totally proved it was false.

Just legislating "no TV" is not going to make them more spiritual.

And it remains to be seen that TV has "virtually no redeeming value"...that's the same broken record we here over and over as if we are all supposed to just agree with you on it. I do not agree with you on it. It's not TV that has redeeming value or does not have redeeming value and neither does the Internet. They are both neutral mediums that can be used for whatever purpose that people use it for. Same goes for print and radio. We didn't let the devil have the internet all to himself, why do the same with TV?
Television advertising has been proven to move "product" so-to-speak. Television has been proven to shape and mold opinion... in good ways AND in bad ways.... the most influential media available today is the TV... if the influence of TV can be harnassed to communcate the truth, to influence towards what is right, how can it possibly be said that "there is no redeeming value in the use of TV"? I agree with you Prax, just because this mantra has been parroted over the years, doesn't necessarily mean that people with brains and who can think critically and analytically have to buy into and subscribe to that mantra... In fact, I don't think subscribing to that mantra is necessary in order to maintain a conservative identity. I don't think that just because the UPC has passed a resolution allowing the use of the most influential and diverse media availabe today for the purpose of advancing the gospel, means that everything is lost.

Same with me. I always believed we should be Christians and avoid what is wrong, just as we do in everyday life.

To tell you the truth, both have failings to them. I have time to be on the internet because I am recovering from surgery on my foot & the doc says
1 more week off.

I am bored!

However, people are missing the point with TV-at the very least it is a time waster!

Do you really want all those ads to come into your home?
Ad agencies have execs regularly make 6 figure salary's or more because they
know that ADVERTISING WORKS!

Now, we haven't even touched on the programs yet, but with two strikes against it---why do you still defend it??

It seems as if it is a "Godly Right" we need to justify?

Have you ever watched, "To Catch A Predator" on MSNBC.....they haul them in by the dozens setting up an Internet sting in cities around the states...these guys think they are going to meet some child they hooked up with on the Internet...but NO...it is that news reporter and the local police...

No meetings like that have ever been set up by a predator using TV...but the Internet has "redeeming value" and TV does not....
Why is it that cons disregard facts like this in their elevation of internet as "redeemable", and their condemnation of television as "irredeemable"?

BINGO!!!!! If it works, then why shouldn't we use it?

Allowing advertising DOES NOT equate to the full uninhibited acceptance of TV.... if internet can be embraced with controlls and discression, why not TV? If internet can be allowed with filters, then why not TV? Or rather, why not just allow TV advertising, and then teach about the wisdom of not having one in the home? I don't see this as a double standard at all!!! If advertising works, let's use it!

I agree with you it works-but only it certain mediums.
An idiot box is great for getting things of the world pushed onto people.
This salvation message was meant for a "one on one" or "personal touch"
not a "reach out and touch your wide screen TV'S and yea let the Lord heal
thee of that sickness!"
