Like who? The McGruder's? LOL!!!! Yeah, they were so popular, they made it all easy for him....

But honestly, okay...you're right...finding "favor" with the right people is something that you should do if you want to be welcomed in certain areas. So maybe LC has "played the game" better and smarter than DH did? Or maybe DH didn't care enough to "play the game" and went his own direction?

I really just don't see DH as not arriving at success, and I'm surprised that anyone else would. LC is only widely known within Apostolic ranks; DH has a much broader range than that. *shrug* It all depends on what you define as being successful, I suppose.

Plus, I will say that LC is pretty careful about going heavy metal in churches that wouldn't welcome it. He can play just plain' ol' Amazing Grace or How Great Thou Art, and he wins people over. He's amiable and people just tend to like him. I've seen him sing/play for 20 minutes and preach for 10 minutes and have everyone in the altar. He's likeable, and that's really important, especially when you're playing a controversial style of music (within the Apostolic church world, anyway) He was not accepted right away...it has taken him years to move to where he is today.

In order to move beyond your own little world in the music business you have to have charisma and street smarts of a sort, not just talent. LC has people skills. They've served him quite well. Some musicians and singers will never be able to move very far beyond their own circles because they're either not really interested in it, or they're not really willing to put in the effort it takes to broaden their horizons.
