Had a class assignment to draw one of the charcters from the Wizard of Oz. Since I had not seen the program, couldn't complete the assignment.
I still have never sat down and watched the Wizard of Oz. Have caught bits and pieces here and there.
The only social hinderance I ran into was not knowing who in the world they were talking about. [actors/actresses]

Ya know, I know so and so, and they turned out GREAT! Guess what.... They DON'T live in Montana! Thus I would think that those who DO live in Montana are at a HUGE disadvantage over those who are not.
Seriously, TOO MUCH television is but one of many factors that go into the development of a person. For kids growing up today, the internet has taken over the spot that TV used to hold.
And RANDY WAYNE, you are using the internet WAY TOO MUCH!
Why, look at you, look at how you turned out!
Just kidding. I do think that those holding a position against TV will soon be in a postion like to someone preaching against 8track tapes. It will be archaic.

My husband has never seen The Wizard of Oz. He was raised COG and his mother wouldn't allow it. She also threw away the funny papers! LOL!
I've noticed that children are not as interested in reading when they have television. They will read, but if you don't put a time limit on the t.v., you won't produce serious readers, IMO.
Again, IMO, I think many of the children's shows are very poor examples of how we would want to raise our children. It totally competes with our good teaching as parents!! Totally DO NOT like the Disney Channel, many Disney movies, the Cartoon Channel, etc.

And what's interesting is...I grew up with very strict limits on TV and media. I am a voracious reader. My children have grown up with far fewer limits on TV or media (aside from not having cable tv...when we did was the only time I put heavy limits on what and when they could watch) and they are all 3 of the readers, voracious readers and the little guy is using his dvds to teach himself to read.
I despise the cartoon network and most other kid's programming. Some of the older Disney movies are ok. We have quite a few of those. But, my kids are strange. They watch the food network dvds I bought for them more than anything else. When we had cable tv, they watched food network, tlc, discovery, national geographic (which definitely earns the "graphic" in it...I monitored that far more closely than anything else!)

God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we're in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ. ~Romans 3:24 from The Message
After the boys finished the house, they told me, dad, i am never getting married. I ask why would you say that. They said, because we don't want to build another house. We all laughed together.
We as a family always did things together and still do. Once we had a 21yr old boy( lewis) help us a few days. We had to paint a few parts, and the boys gave lewis a can of spray paint to use. Lewis ask how do you use it. We though he was joking. But he was not. We showed him how and went on. Later the boys and i were talking. The boy lewis knew all the lastest rap songs, and also wore the lastest fashoin cloths, but did not even know how to use a can spray paint. This is the kind of thing, worldy TV training does. With generations of children left to worldy training, they are doomed to a steady job at mcdonalds.
TV is so adicting it is everywhere, stores, eatting places, even gas pumps now. They are like little Budas.
If you think they are not budas, just listen to the many excuses people who inbrace them explain how holy and great they are.

Are you serious; or are you making this stuff up? Seems to me anyone who "knows the latest rap songs and wore the latest fashions" would know how to use a can of spray paint and probably would be responsible for some of the tagging and graffiti in the neighborhood.
Maybe he knew how to use the can - but he became confused when you didn't give him a paper bag to "huff" with.

Yeah, I can appreciate much of what has been said, but the spray paint story seems a bit much. That would pretty much require him to have never used an aerosol can of any sort.
Seriously, I was raised without a TV and I do believe there are pros and cons. Of course, as someone else has said, newer technologies are almost making traditional TV a moot point.

They really ARE everywhere. I have one on my cell phone, another on the back of my Rebel XT camera, at least one for every computer I own, one on my GPS, and oh yes, a COUPLE big ones that actually do most of the displaying from our DirecTV receiver.

I dunno, I see "little Buddhas" in some of the Chinese Restaurants where I eat (where I used to be able to afford to eat before the carnal Kentuckians messed up the whole country) and all they do is grow bamboo shoots.
Is that what is meant about them being "little Budas" - that the job of holding bamboo shoots will be taken over by televisions?
