It is the will of God for every man that he not be a crackpot for Christ.
reminds me of the guy walking down the street wearing one of those sandwich board signs. On the front it said, "I'm a fool for Christ" and on the back it said, "Whose fool are you?"

Dont forget the written word. The will of YHWH in many matters is found right there.
Not trying to be nitpicky here, but how about all matters? Not just many matters.
Experience, intuition, feelings -- all must be subject to the written word, no matter how real one's experiences may seem.

I like the first part of the question: How do we determine?
I've heard so many responses. People as wild as waiting for a "prophetic word" and fleecing God to those who believe the purpose of a renewed mind is so we can "prove the acceptable will of God," meaning a Spirit-filled person that's marching to the drum of the kingdom will make choices and decisions in line with God's will.
In the end, we know often too late when it wasn't His will. Train wreck city.
Word of God was not framed and canonized so you have a specific voice for the Will of God. It's a great baramoter to test if something is in violation of His word or not, or if it's in harmony with the spirit of His word or not.
In principle, I could agree though that "he that doeth the will of God abideth forever," meaning in general, living out the Kingdom on earth. But in specific matters, we are often anxious about knowing if we are in God's will or not. The way I see it, just go about the work for the Kingdom. If God sees fit to move you, He'll get your attention and take the wheel. Better to be moving...

How can you tell if a train wreck wasn't really God's intended outcome that doesn't look good to us puny-minded humans?

Important as the written word is it does not tell the Lords will for every instance. Who should you marry? Where should you work?
no, it does not tell who to marry or where to work,
but,
based on the way I understand the Scriptures,
it would be wrong to marry someone of the same gender
and it would be wrong to marry an unbeliever.
Where to work?
Well, the way I understand the Scriptures it would be wrong to have a job which would involve stealing or adultery or covetousness, etc.
So, robbing banks would be out. So would working in the porn industry. Also any job where you were expected to lie or cheat.
That's why I wrote before about going by Scriptural guidelines.
Each detail would not be covered.
