"For what glory is it, if, when ye be BUFFETED for your faults, ye shall TAKE IT patiently? but if, when ye do well, and SUFFER for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ ALSO suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was REVILED, reviled NOT again; when he suffered, he threatened NOT; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls"

EB, Yes, Jesus is our example in all things. Thanks for the Scripture!

Matt 24:43 (KJV) 43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
Seems Jesus lends support to the idea of protecting one's household. And if He allows us to not have our house broken up, then I would think He'd not want our spouses or children hurt either. Seems Jesus also said that if anyone hurts one of these little ones they should have a millstone hung around their neck and be cast into the sea.
I can and have turn my other cheek, but I can also protect what the Lord has blessed me with.

Lord bless you my Brother, Matt 24:43 is speaking of watching for the signs of the time, and keeping vigilant (all spiritual and symbolic). Protect what you have but don't use deadly force. "Except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain."

Brother Benincasa I love the crunch of the weapon against my shoulder
as I fire. The way the shot gun shell ejects is an awesome thing but then
I like duck hunting not man killing.
I have not read this thread entirely - only the last few pages - I agree with your posts L&F. Constaining an offender and handing him over to the "powers that be" or "rulers" should be the Christian response.
I do not think cooking dinner is the intent of scripture... IF it is done to cover the man's sin or to not hold him accountable...
BUT... IF, God would grant you such boldness in your heart, and you washed the feet of a murderer in prison (even guilty of killing one of your family) you may very well convert him to Jesus Christ. The love of God is FAR greater than any such selfless act, and by showing a microcosm of His love you may win some. It is a Biblical concept.

I am a firm believer in the Old Paths

Thanks for the post!
Concerning the “powers to be”: My dad was a policeman for over 20 years. He such a great shot that the US Army wanted to hire him to travel and do promotional shows for them. He was an expert marksman both with his right and left hand. But in all his years of being a policeman he never had to shoot a man. He faced many—many—dangerous situations, but he always found another way. We can always say, "Yes, but what about the crime or violence that his gun could have stopped?" That is true. Such force does permanently stop particular acts of violence or crime. But there is always more than one victim when humans are killed this way. Always! Not ever killing or shooting a man was one thing he was very thankful for when he retired. He knew what it did to both the person killed, to the man doing the killing, and also to the family of the one shot. All of these, he knew, are horrible! By the way, Dad was not a cop when he became Born Again. When that wonderful event happened, Dad traded in his guns and began carrying a “sword.”
Washing your enemy’s feet is an example Jesus left us. We are to serve ALL men. That is the Christian call. God’s goodness is what leads men to repentance. It is His love on which all the commandments hang. Thanks for the reminder!
PS Your avatar: We had the Electric Amish at one of our county fairs many years ago. They caused a HUGE controversy with the locals. Many thought they were being disrespectful considering their background. I did not go to hear them so that is the full extent of my knowledge on that group.
