What makes ME cry about that is how many of these people lose their homes a year or two later because they mortgage it to the max.
They do pay of mortgages for most of them, but it's the taxes that they have to pay. Upkeep is hard too for some.

No, it is many taking 2nd and 3rd mortgages based on the increase equity in their new homes. This has happened quite a few times now including a case here in Phoenix. The producers of the show were even on the news stating that they gave this family all the help they could but they just overextended way too much.
