Re: Calling Those with a Knack for Decorating...
I would also add, when picking your paint color, be mindful of the tone.
Cool tone or warm tone. Decide which you want first.

Yep - - I'm like you, things just seem to always fall into place - - I start with one thing, then the whole look falls together.

I'm so into wainscoting right now. I saw a photo of a dining room, doors closed, and the wainscoting was also on the back of the doors. I'm thinking of doing that in my sunroom. LOL!
I don't let my husband do the chair rails anymore. When he routed the ones in my hallway, you can tell that they are not smooth. I sanded and sanded, but couldn't fix them. So, I put them up and I don't try to look at them. Someday I'm going to change them out. Probably not. I'd have to drag the air compressor into the house.

And I can take years to decide what I want. LOL! If I can't find what I want, I don't do anything about it. It took me years to decide what to do with the furniture in my daughter's room. Finally finished them in animal print - all print in chocolate - background giraffe/dark sage green, zebra/pink and cheetah/yellow. I glazed over everything with dark umber. I love it. I guess I'm turning whimsical after all.

And again, I am enamored with Behr's paint samples - $2.95. Paint a little portion, watch the light throughout the day and make your choice.

I'm not so much into it - - or chair rails anymore (my dining room is the only room that has chair railing). I like the smooth painted walls - - never, never, never anymore wallpaper either!

I love textured wallpaper. It is so cool and you can paint it.

That's a lesson I learned the hard way. My oldest daughter wanted her room green, and so I picked out two shades, the lighter one going above the chair rail and the darker below. When it got it onto the wall, it was more of a brownish army green rather than the softer green I thought I had bought! I was out the price of two gallons of paint because it was completely unusable. I do samples now...I've had three splotches of paint on my bedroom wall for over a year. My husband said the other day, "I don't care what color you pick--just PAINT IT!"

There was some old textured goldish wallpaper in our entry way and I painted over it with tan paint--it looks really good! And I don't have to try to get all that paper off the wall.
