Re: Obama: Quit Listening to Rush Limbaugh

Bingo on the hyperbole.

I once heard Rush say in an interview that he uses the tactitcs he does to differentiate himself from his competitors. Not to say he doesn't believe what he says, but he knows in a very competive market he must do this to carve out his niche.

There's no help to get into a better place where you can support yourself, and help others.

I *will* do this because I'm insanely stubborn. But I completely understand why people give up. I've actually been there...if it weren't for some good friends at the time, I would have stayed there.
There are government programs to make sure women, infants, and children (WIC) get food. Use it until you can get on your feet. You can work your way out, but often it takes grit and determination. Does your locate church know what situation you are in?

[QUOTE=RevDWW;690703]Just quoting what the Word says.

Not if it's harmful to the child. I'm not advocating sweat shops or the like. But it will not hurt a kid to take a job to help out the family if need be.

I started working at around 14 and have held two jobs most of my life until I went into business for myself and that is two jobs!!

I never said it was wrong to help folks out. Just that said folks ought to be doing what they can to help themselves.[ Quote]

I was always told, God helps those who help themselves.

I also started working around the age of 14, been working ever since. And the way things are looking we might not be able to retire for a loooong time.....

I do have foodstamps. Food isn't a concern. It took a long time before I was willing to accept that help, but seriously I need it to keep my children fed while I work my way out of this mess. WIC is a great program, but it requires a lot of hours to get on the program and remain eligible. I just budget accordingly and the foodstamps are enough. And, I only have one child who qualifies for WIC at this time, and only for another year. WIC is really, really beneficial for those struggling who don't qualify for enough foodstamps, or don't qualify at all because their income is too high (but not high enough to pay bills, meet needs, and keep food around).

My church is very aware of the situation I'm in. I've been in this situation for a few years. My ex left me pretty high and dry and I trusted him far too much. When he stopped paying child support, we ended up homeless for a few months (my mom finally came and got us..I worked two jobs while living with her to get on my feet enough to get moved into my own place and in school). I'd gotten myself into a place where I was precariously perched, but not drowning anymore. And then he pulled another trick (he decided to just keep the kids after his summer visitation had ended...um no..I'm still paying the lawyer fees and only was able to get my children due to miracle after miracle after miracle) and I've been drowning again since. I'm *finally* seeing the end of this, but that's only if everything goes exactly as planned and nothing unexpected comes up in the next several months again. I still have a few years of school left, I ended up missing a semester due to this stuff with my ex this summer too. I'll be very precariously perched until I finish school. At least teaching math seems to be a fairly stable, and in demand, career choice.

Grit and determination and.....apparently this is slightly easier with God. Ok, more than slightly...lol

I will work my way out of this. I'm too stubborn not to, really. And I've discovered that surrounding myself with other stubborn people is the best thing for when my stubborn wears thin. I don't let them give up, they don't let me give up. This will likely be the single most difficult thing I ever accomplish in my life.

I do know that I intend to find others who are where I am right now and do everything I can to help them get to where I'm going. I think change on this front has to be a grassroots thing and I'm already a part of that. The programs that exist aren't enough.

And, I'm not putting all this info out there about me to have anyone saying "oh poor thing". If anyone really wants to help someone out who needs it, I can tell you how to find them. I can tell you how to minimize the chances that you're helping a freeloader, and I can tell you what sort of help is truly most needed. My prayer since figuring out God really will provide for me is "God give me enough to give." I've been awed at how He's answered that even when I'm still unsure just exactly how the rent's going to get paid. If He's going to take care of me like He has, all I want to do is take care of someone else...show them how God will take care of them. He's used too many people to show me how much He loves me and how well He will meet my needs for me not to be used in the same way for someone else.

So is that your argument for why people that don't pay taxes should get a check from the treasury department in addition to the stuff they are already getting?

You guys are too late to try to make this argument, it's been going on for YEARS and during Republican administrations. One manifestation of it is Earn Income Tax Credit. Seems like nothing but partisan politics to complain about it now.

Besides, how do you know that these people haven't paid taxes? We've lost MILLIONS of jobs this year. Did these people not pay taxes when they were working? Should they not reap the benefit of their taxes during their time of need?

The vast majorit of the people who will benefit from this help are responsible, hard working people like you and me who have fallen on hard times and need help to get back on their feet and do their part to be responsible citizens and help turn this economy around.

I don't understand this seemingly knee jerk reaction against gov't helping people in need. We spend 11 BILLION dollars a month prosecuting a war in Iraqi and it seems to accepted almost w/out question. But if someone talks about spending a few billion to help our own citizens and the poor suddenly people wring their hands and get distraught. WWJD? Would he spend 11 BILLION a MONTH on a war and hesitate to help the poor and needy? Would he spend more on war than ministry?

Let's note a few things here:

Widows and Orphans - That would be women and children

In their affliction - that not keeping them needing a handout, but helping them thought their trouble.

2Th 3:8 Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:
2Th 3:9 Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.
2Th 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
2Th 3:11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
2Th 3:12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
2Th 3:13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

I think that there are those in Government that want to keep people on welfare and in poverty, promising all the while to get them out, because as long as they will not take care of themselves and rely on the government, the elected retain their power.
Hey Rev. how come you don't griped about the corporate welfare of the last 8years. The largest socialist program by republicans. Republicans have started the US on the socialist path.
Did you gripe when Cheney's co received millions upon millions of welfare dollars. How about the rich republican potato farmer in Idaho who receives welfare called farm subsidy? It ok if the republicans try to stay in power by giving hand outs to the rich but if a democrat gives money to a poor mother working two jobs the republican cryfoul.
