You know this is an APOSTOLIC website... meaning just that. Most apostolic-christians believe in the "Oneness" of God because He is ONE... just because He manifested Himself as the FATHER, SON, and HOLY SPIRIT does NOT MEAN He is 3 separate entities! It must be really confusing for you if you believe that. Anyways YES we may have "strange" beliefs according to other non-denominational christians (or other denominations) but the ones I am aware of are in the WORD. The only reason that UPC pastors preach against using other versions of the bible besides the King James version is because it is less watered-down than the others. Other than that, just let the Lord lead you. The UPC and other Oneness Pastors I've had & seen preach are totally awesome men of God but they are not perfect- they have their faults just like WE do! (I totally believe in the Holiness way of living because Christian women should NOT dress like worldly women do. It's okay to look & dress nice, but have decency! The bible does say for women to dress in modest apparel and it's sad that alot of Christian women are either unaware of that or they are fully aware of it and choose to dress the way THEY want to anyways! Because when they are in church, or other places they can cause other men to be distracted and lust; even christian men. Yes I understand that some men have a dirty mindset and will lust no matter how modest you dress! And if there's any women reading this and you feel convicted at all read Proverbs 11:22 <this one woke ME up real quick!> and 1 Timothy 2:9-10)

Cindy... I'm stepping away from the keyboard. Okay!?!
I'm not trying to prolong the discussion, let me just lay out what I'm getting at.....what makes the KJV the "smart" version instead of any other translation, either newer or older?
I've heard this my whole like - the KJV is the only version of the Bible we should be using. And my question is why?
I can see using the KJV over the newer translations, such as NIV, Amplified, etc....but, if we REALLY want to be purists, why wouldn't we use the Vulgate, or the Wycliffe? They preceded the KJV, so therefore, SHOULD be closer to the original manuscripts - right?

Wow.....I kind of got whiplash trying to follow the theme of this post, lol.....from the Godhead, to the KJV, to the humanity of pastors, to the way women dress, to the fact that men are pigs........

My UPCI pastor has always encurraged me to use many translations in study.
In his preaching and teaching he often reads a passage of importance from 1 or 2 translations other than the KJV to give a wider understanding of the passage he is speaking on.
I use 5 or 6 translations regularly and when I have something very particular that I really want the sense of, I will read all 17 that I have access to.
I also use several bible dictionaries as well as Strongs and other translation resources to get the sense of orriginal wording/understanding.
I use a KJV bible as my primary bible and the bible I preach from, because it is comfortable to me.
I think it is just nonsense that we argue over what translation we must use.

As I recall, Rick Warren's book Purpose Driven Life (which I taught in a UPCI church) concludes that the purpose of each of us is to do the work God has called us to.
I have an issue with anyone who has an issue with that.
