The school I am a supervisor over is actually 2 schools in one building, Hoffman Middle School and Yes PREP Hoffman, the latter being a charter school. Two different learning styles, two different approaches to learning. Let me state this, that even in home-schools and charters, it is the environment surrounding the student which helps them not just learn, but also be able to apply what they learn. Even in homeschooling environment, even so-called Christian home-school environments, the method and atmosphere can become detrimental to kids learning and applying what they learn.

Many parents do a great job of teaching their kids, and yes, mostly the kids do well academically. But their level of social involvement can be lower than with students in other environments. The schools I am part of are both serious about discipline, about teaching, high standards, and supporting the kids. If a child is late to class, if a child is not respectful, if a child just flat out refuses to work, they try to build and discipline at the same time. The Hoffman Middle School principal, Mrs. Morrison-Adams, works hard to foster an atmosphere of both learning, high expectations, and encouragement of students and faculty alike, something I have tried to foster in my Custodial Staff as well.

Look, I said all that to say this. As a believer, I know public schools and charter schools have both good and bad, as does home school. But, let us not put down either. Good has come from both, as well as bad. It all comes down to the environment the kids are learning and achieving in. The answer is prayer and being parents who are responsible in their kids lives, so as to see what they are learning, how they are learning, and when there is a need, not be absentee. This is so important in all scenarios.

Just my thoughts on home-schooling versus public/charter school.

Sadly, this post completely misses the issue. The issue is not which educational system provides more opportunities for your kids to act the fool with their peers. Rather, the issue is any educational system that is not Bible based and Christ-honouring is forbidden for the children of Christian parents.

And this gets to the heart of the matter. It doesn't matter if a local public or private (or even home) school is the best in the world academically, with the best results in the arena of social graces and etiquette, producing Einsteins left and right. That isn't the point. The point is NOT that "public schools are SOOOOOO bad...." The point is that public schools are NON CHRISTIAN and NON BIBLICAL, and therefore are not an option for the Christian parent, period.

6 Public education is designed to teach children to sin.
7 Public education is controlled by the wicked.
8 All objections are useless – whether the good school district excuse; the salt and light excuse; the sunday school excuse; the family influence and devotions excuse; the exception excuse; the can't afford private school excuse; the can't homeschool excuse; or the state forbids it excuse.
9 All objections being refuted, it follows that parents who send their children to public school hate their children in their heart, which makes them doubly guilty of sin.

Parents are commanded to teach their children, therefore they are accountable for their children's education, it's content, and morality. The education of children is nowhere mandated in scripture to anyone but parents. Anyone else who teaches children does so as proxies of the parents, and therefore as their agents. Therefore whatever is taught, the parents are accountable for.

Revelation 2:14-16 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. Christ had a few things against the angels of the churches of Pergamos and Thyatira because they allowed people to teach His servants to commit fornication and be involved in false religion. The angel of the church was responsible for what was being taught, even though he himself was not doing the actual, direct teaching. How much more will parents be responsible for what is being taught to the children He has given them, even if they themselves are not doing the direct, actual teaching itself? If the children are being taught immorality and false religious ideas (such as evolution, atheism, agnosticism, etc) then the Lord will have more than just a 'few things' against the parents! Those given the oversight of others are responsible for what is taught their charges by hired proxies and agents (such as the public school system). If wickedness is taught, then not only are the teachers guilty, but so are the ones who knowingly allow such wickedness to be taught to those entrusted in their care. And thus the angel of the church is told to repent for allowing false teachers to seduce those under his care, and parents likewise are to repent for allowing false teachers to seduce the children under their care. A command to repent implies one will be lost if they do not, for unless you repent you will die in your sins.

Failure to give one's children a Christian, Biblical education is a violation of the commands of God, and therefore sin. And unrepented sin will drown the soul in the lake of fire.

I know it’s been 1.5 years since u started this thread, but I hadn’t seen it.

We homeschool, and are having several families in our state, as well as ones from Wisconsin, Tenn, and Illinois, meet in our upcoming annual fall apostolic homeschool gathering Lotta fun...ZIP line, hay rides, archery shooting, volleyball, and a lot of outdoor games...etc This is probly our 8th year doing this big shindig.
