Do U (or Tyrone if he reads this)believe "the language we speak with our spirit that cannot be understood" can not be given an interpretation into an understood language ?

Says who?? I don't think so.

Well, your Q would be clearer without the "not" toward the end, but I get you, and can't really answer. I read in scripture "tongues," and "interpretation" as gifts, but these seem to be in a diff spot from "the language we speak with our spirit that cannot be understood," so i am in darkness here.

Re: Question about "speaking in tongues"

I've a few questions about tongues. (the initial evidence, and praying in tongues) How does one know it is real? (not others know, how does the speaker know?) What should one feel? Can you stop yourself from speaking them? When I was in church before, I was young and just wanted to be doing it like everyone else, so I copied parts of other peoples tongues and blended them together. I'm older now and taking it a lot more seriously, and I just want to be sure it's legitimate this time. I want to make this clear, I don't doubt it's real, I just don't want to make a mistake.

Was there something in there that says 'I'm on the beach having a drink with a straw umbrella in it?'

I would suggest that you endeavor to speak in tongues during your private prayer time... Be sincere with God and ask for the gift he has for you. No outside pressure or influence. Be OK if it happens or if it doesn't. When it's real you will know.

Peace

Matt, I think we want to know and understand that our experience with Jesus is genuine and not dependent on the quality of tongues we might speak in prayer. Build up your faith, believe with your heart and confess Christ with your mouth, then you can rest assuredly that you are secure in Him.

Be comforted by His word when you pray in tongues, knowing the former is salvific and not the quality or quantity of the latter.

Blessings to you! I look forward to getting to know you better and hope you enjoy your involvement on AFF.
