How is this thread ignorant and who actually said they were thinking of incorporating it into apostolic worship?

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

POSSIBLY a great outreach tool?? I just don't know...

of course I am a hard core ultra Conservative myself, but I am sort of drawn to this idea.
Steven, You can't be serious. It sounds too much like "vain repetition" for me. You know, like many prayer meetings, " Oh God ! Oh God!! Oh God!!! Oh God!!!! Oh God!!!!! Oh God!!!!!! Oh God!!!!!!!!, God move! God Move!! God move!!! God move!!!! God move!!!!! God move!!!!!! By hook or crook!!!!!!!! God move!!!" LOL

Re: Anyone into Drum Circles?

I think it all depends on several points.

Are all involved Christians?

I've attended some Christian "jam sessions" when brothers all got together and played guitars and all moved into a very worshipful experience.

I guess with drums it could be similar.

But I think if it involves non-Christians and has a purpose other than making music unto the Lord Jesus Christ it's potential for serious issues.

Drums have been used in pagan religious gatherings for thousands of years and for this reason many Christians today believe that even having drums in church is a sin.

When converting tribal people's those tribal peoples typically turn their music into praise.

One can either view it as something to avoid or something to take back and give to God. I believe the motive is paramount. Is it to glorify the Lord?

On another level I see this as our modern society trying desperately to get back to basics. Our postmodern culture has found traditional methods, models, music, etc. are often unfulfilling. So some are turning to things like this.

I'm not comfortable with it. Not sure if I'd be pleased if my son were involved. But those are my personal convictions. Some don't play anything but drums. I guess if they got together to have a "drum jam session for Jesus" before a camp fire while camping it would be entirely up to them.

Little Baby, pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum,
On my drum?

Mary nodded, pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum.

Re: Anyone into Drum Circles?

Having worked in a predominantly Native Indian congregation for three years, and having them inform me of such things as powows, etc., it is definitely WRONG to participate in. These converts informed me from their experiences of involvement that the drumming is intended to attract spirits. Sweet grass is then burnt and wafted upon each participant to likewise attract spirits. Ezekiel 20 was staunchly against God's name being involved in pagan practices.

Someone will now pipe up and ask about Christmas and Easter. Answer: have fun with gifts and so on, but do not make it a religious rite!

I just read the posts through and realized I said the same thing as here back in September! lol

Oops!

Re: Anyone into Drum Circles?

I know folks who seriously believe that using any form of drums at all is a sin...even to accompany music in church.

Thoughts?

Re: Anyone into Drum Circles?

Well Stephen, here it comes......we have a drum line at my local church.

Its called "Live Wire" and includes four guys sometimes playing a single drum and sometimes they all have full sets....

They have orchestrated several routines which they have played at the local, district (Praise in the Park) and national level (they played at Youth Congress recently).

I can't specifically say that there is worship being produced, but I can say that it has the potential of that. Does it sound tribal at times? Yes, some of the routines seem that way.

I guess I can say that I would rather have them doing this than finding an alternative outside the church. Your question is valid and I am not sure I have the answer. Are we trying to determine whether or not this is of any Christian value?

As far as beating my own drum....my wife says I look like this

Re: Anyone into Drum Circles?

yeah, I do too...quite foolish if you ask me...

Now I do agree that there must be guidelines for all music....however just because I don´t care for it some love drums.

I have never heard of drum circles so I have no idea what they are...
