Whatever happened to the good old days when men (AND their wives) would feel the call of God to go to a town they never heard of, start a church with NO members (and, no cushy salary of course) and just live by faith?

LOL! Seriously, we are normally always in agreement on anything we make decisions on. I know that would not be one we will ever have to make.
God spoke to my husband and told him that he is a saint builder and that is why he never called him to pastor. He told my husband that if he became a pastor there would be some separation between him and the saints and he didn't want that for him.
I'm a very private person and would never make it as a pastor's wife. Many times I have to spend time alone and the constant calls would never work for me. I couldn't handle it.
Your last paragraph reminds me of a book I read as a new convert. I don't know if it was Andrew Urshan's book or not. The story was about a group of evangelists who traveled from town to town. They had an agreement that if they had a need they had to stay behind, speak to no one but God, wait for the prayer to be answered and then meet up with the team in the next town.
One of the young boys had holes in his socks and had to stay behind. He prayed and the very next morning an elderly woman knocked at the door and handed him a pair of socks, may have been more than one pair. She told him that God impressed on her to give them to him.
That built a lot of faith in me, as a new convert, and I believed from that day, that is how God is.
He has proved to be that way in my life. Ask and you shall receive!!! Amen!
