If he is very strict on standards, he would view that as promiscuous behavior and extremely suspect.

It's just that he could take a Biblical stance against that in his church, but it would never hold up in a secular court of law, which it didn't.

Did you see one of my posts on Adam Clark's definition of "fornication"? He said that fornication is connected with adultery and means "illicit connection between single or unmarried persons; yet often signifying adultery also." Illicit is defined as "contrary to accepted morality".

So, I am wondering if we are trying to define fornication as only the actual act. Adam Clark seems to think it also includes anything that is "contrary to accepted morality."

What do you think about that?
Exactly PO!

the way it was handled is in my view ignorant, he may have great, strong convictions, but when will these ignorant brethren realize they cant control peoples lives, and they ought not say every little thought that comes to them, in a rant usually, dt

Agreed. The angle, imo, was to justify getting out of the marriage ... because of a backward theology.

It seems to me if someone would have thought before they spoke alot could have been avoided.

Have you never known someone you felt did something wrong that someone else spoke highly of? I have. He probably never intended for what he said to go beyond the walls of his church, at least not in the way that it did (much less in the way that it has), anymore than she thought she'd be accused of fornication for wearing a bikini.

They did NOT bet $500k. They did NOT know what they were going to "get" if they won the suit. The jury determined the amount.

I've paid for counseling and medical expenses after extremely difficult events... and I never sued. She paid $300. Believe me, that wasn't much. Three counseling sessions, $100/ea. Or $75 for an office visit and a prescription to help her sleep or calm her nerves as she was dealing with the situation, maybe. An attorney who was after money would have encouraged her to regularly visit the doctor and a counselor for months, and pressed for further medical expenses to be covered after the final judgment. They asked for $300. The jury assessed total costs and came up with the total settlement amount.

Spiritualabuse.org now more information posted on it, and the story has been picked up by a few other sites, though for the most part there is just a mention and no discussion. Just one more lawsuit amongst many in the eyes of most people, thankfully.

Hey brother!
I think he and the board were given a chance to apologize and wouldn't.

Probably didn't intend for it to go any further. I agree. And I believe, including myself, that we are good people having made huge mistakes. So, I agree.

I had assumed that the attorney drafted a defamation complaint which does include the requested money amount as part of the relief he/she is requesting from the court.

Re: UPC Pastor Convicted of Slander in Pulpit!

For all who are interested, http://spiritualabuse.org/experience...k_fogarty.html has posted clarifications to our assumptions on this board.

From that site, apparently they contacted Angela's attorney and got the following information:
Angela did not file the divorce. James did. Angela didn't want the divorce, and James filed for irreconcilable differences.
Regarding the ever popular bikini incident, it happened years before the divorce, had nothing to do with the divorce, James never mentioned it or any concern for Angela's faithfulness in the divorce. She and another woman were swimming. The other woman's husband came and Angela left. She was in a onepiece, not a bikini.

Sounds like the gossip got just a tad out of control.

PO, regarding the assumption on request for relief, here is a link to the original complaint. http://www.13wmaz.com/news/PDF/driver_complaint.pdf
