More Employee Layoffs at PPH

Yesterday, the Division of Publications announced that it will be outsourcing all call center and order fulfillment work. This means that most shipping, receiving and order entry positions will be eliminated in February.

It is estimated that the total cost savings will amount to around $80k a year.

that's really too bad. my parents have ordered from them for years-- since I was in 3rd grade!

You really dont want to get me started on this news....

bottom line: they run that place like a for profit business and choose to issue gas cards to the higher ups and continue to bankroll their frequent trips..not to mention the countless media presentations that are unnecessary...but will OUTSOURCE jobs and take them away from hard working UPC folks...

this news will devistate several families in this area and have a significant impact on entire congregations.

This is wrong on so many levels.

More proof that a bible school education alone isnt sufficient in the BUSINESS world. If they are going to run it like a business, they need people running it with experience.

and can we get a cost analysis on general conference? the banquets and breakfasts and meetings they funded.....not to mention the room and board for those that travelled there...and the truck loads of material sent to sell during the event...

all b/c they dont want to have it in St Louis that often b/c so many use that time as their "vacation"?

At the expense of hard working PPH employees....

All of these layoffs will be blue collar employees.

No executives will lose their jobs.

Well....

I rarely order from PPH any more anyhow. But I feel for those losing their jobs.

entire famlies are impacted.....

it's wrong...bad wrong.

I understand the need to make changes but their approach has been all wrong...I just dont get it.

Why would these layoffs be any worse than all the others happening around the US?

I think the implication is that since the UPC is supposedly a non-profit organization, the income should be distributed evenly. It would appear (and I don't know personally) that some at HQ are getting rich, while others are being laid off.
