Last night I almost lost my wife
Last night while preparing to drop off my daughter at a church function I received a call from one of my wife’s co-workers. She appeared to have had a reaction of some kind, her tongue and face were swollen, she was having trouble breathing and 911 had been called. I immediately called pastor and started a prayer chain.
Within minutes I received another call, paramedics had arrived at her work, given her a shot of Benadryl, started an IV and decided to transport when her blood pressure was so low they could not get a reading.
After finding out which hospital she was being taken to, I immediately headed that way.
By the time I got there her tongue was still so swollen speech was impossible, but she had stabilized, following even more Benadryl and steroids.
It is obvious she was in the beginning stages of anaphylactic shock, the time elapsed between first symptoms and total incapacity was less than five minutes.
But for the prayer, and quick arrival of the paramedics I have no doubt she would have died.
She was fine this morning although we are concerned that the trigger still remains a total mystery.
I was shook to the core when reminded how any of our lives could be taken in a matter of minutes or devastated in the same amount of time due to the loss of a loved one.
Maybe it is because of that mindset. Maybe I would feel that way anyway. But glancing around here today, seeing what people I care about are doing to each other. So unnecessary.
When you feel as though you have been offended, whether you think it justified or not, measure your words.
You never know which conversation will be your last, or the last thought on another’s mind before they go.

How horrible, James. Glad your wife is doing okay now.
You are right, words matter.

Oh James! I'm so glad to hear she's ok now. I hope you're able to figure out the trigger without another reaction like that.

I would always have bottles of Benadryl (and an epi pen) on hand at all times after this experience.

Re: Last night I almost lost my wife
Is your wife completely recovered? Thank God the paramedics got to her in time.
Thanks for the sobering words, we all need to be reminded of things ever so often even though we know how we ought to treat one another.

James,
Man.....that is sobering and you are so right that we do need to measure our words.
Thanking God that all is okay now, but I too pray the source of this is revealed so that it doesn't happen again.
Thank you Jesus!
