The Lord is my God
1Ki 8:60 That all the people of the earth may know that the LORD [is] God, [and that there is] none else.
A geologist picked up a rock and noticed the glint of a gem hidden inside. He thought it to be of no value and tossed the rock aside. The rock stuck another and broke in two. Inside was the largest gemstone he had ever seen. Worth millions. So it is with the Bible. You read over something that seems to have little value. But then, you discover a “gem” you had never seen before.
The word “God” appears in
Gen. 1 about 30 times. In every instance except one (verse 2) it is just “God”. The word “God” here is 'elohiym. In
Gen 1, God is never referred to as “Lord”. or “Father”, but, rather, only as 'elohiym.
In
Gen. 2 we note a change. “God” is now referred to as “LORD GOD”. Yĕhovah 'elohiym:
Gen 2:4 ¶ These [are] the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,
In fact, in chapters 2 and 3, God is almost always referred to as Yĕhovah 'elohiym. So we can say that from the creation of man to the fall of man, God was Yĕhovah 'elohiym. During mans brief and exclusive walk with God, God was his Lord.
Not such a revelation after all. But an important truth- a vehicle to get me to where I am going.
“The Lord, He is God”
You know the story. Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal and proved to them who the Lord. Is. Those that saw the challenge and witness the extremely hot proof, responded by saying,
“The LORD, he [is] the God; the LORD, he [is] the God." 1Ki 18:39
Those who devote their lives to God recognize Him as Lord:
The Children of Israel-
Exd 15:2 The LORD [is] my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he [is] my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.
Joshua-
Jos 24:17 For the LORD our God, he [it is] that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed
:
David-
1Ch 16:14 ¶ He [is] the LORD our God; his judgments [are] in all the earth.
So, those who serve God recognize Him as Lord. And we know this: There is but one Yĕhovah 'elohiym.
Deu 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God [is] one LORD:
In the New Testament we find this:
Luk 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
The Lord? Born in Bethlehem? Christ (The Anointed One- the almost exact name “HOLY ONE of Israel” that God is referred to in the OT? The Lord God that walked with Adam in the Garden is now being born on earth to walk among men? Yes The very same.
We know Jesus was the Lord. (Not another Lord…THE Lord). The very same Lord that spoke the Law to Moses is now speaking to the doctors in the temple in Jerusalem. This Jesus Christ is the Lord. The very same Lord.
The point I am trying to make is this: If Jesus is Lord, and we know He is from
Act 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ, then, if there is ONE GOD and ONE LORD and that Jesus is our Lord, then we must acknowledge the fact that Jesus is God manifested in the Flesh. He is the Word made flesh. Thomas referred to Him as
“My Lord and my God”. Jhn 20:28. Thomas didn’t look at Jesus and say “My Lord”, then look to heaven and say “My God”. He acknowledged the fact that Jesus was the Lord God in the flesh. Yes, Jesus was God’s Son, a fact that cannot be denied. He was conceived of the very Spirit of God that moved upon the face of the deep in
Gen. 1. The Lord became flesh. The Mighty God, the Everlasting Father of all eternity was born of a virgin in the Person of His Son Jesus.
(Isa. 9:6)
So, if we acknowledge Jesus as Lord, we must also acknowledge Him as our God.
