I Called Bishop Walter Hawkins' Church Secretary
I just got off of the phone with the late Bishop Walter Hawkins' church secretary.
I asked point blank questions and got answers.
Q: Was Bishop Walter Hawkins a homosexual?
A: As far as I know, no he wasn't, but it amazes me how many other people have called or asked in person questions like this about our church.... He preached the Gospel and worked very hard to build this church and live for the Lord.
Q: I heard the reason for his divorce was because he wanted to live a homosexual lifestyle. Is this true?
A: You would need to ask the people involved. Why do you want to know this?
My response: Please don't be offended, I just want answers so that the next time someone spreads rumors or lies about Bishop Hawkins or your church, I have a defense.
Q: Does your church preach against homosexuality?
A: Our church does not single anyone out. We preach the Gospel and let the Gospel do its work. All are welcome and there is nothing said to single individual people out.
Q: When did your church disaffilliate from COGIC?
A: Bishop Hawkins was raised COGIC, but our church has been non-denominational since the beginning.
Q: So your church preaches homosexuality as sin?
A: We preach the Gospel and only the Gospel. Whatever the Gospel has to say about that is what is preached. No one is singled out here.
So for anyone else who has heard similar rumors or may have had such questions about the man or his church, here are some answers.

Point blank questions. But not of the bishop. So you posted secondhand information again.
Hearsay?

The Bishop is dead Coadie.
Who would know better about the Pastor of a church than the Secretary, save the Pastor's family.

His girlfriend??
Boyfriend?
Second info is stretching it again. I am sure she won't spread gossip about him.

I am sure she would tell the truth in defense of her own Pastor's honor.
The more I think about it, this does seem rather "gossippy" so I will ask Admins to make this thread disappear.
It wasn't my intent, but it sure does seem bad to me-- after the fact of course.

Black gospel singer/songwriter.
Walter Hawkins (May 18, 1949 – July 11, 2010) was an American gospel music singer, and a pastor. Hawkins was consecrated to the bishopic in 1992. He died at his home in Ripon, California, from pancreatic cancer.
Walter Hawkins was the brother of Edwin Hawkins, Daniel Hawkins (Marcia), Feddie Hawkins Smith, Carol Hawkins and Lynette Hawkins-Stephens. Bishop Hawkins was married to Tramaine Hawkins, they had two children, a son Walter "Jamie" Hawkins, Jr., who is married to Myiia "Sunny" Davis-Hawkins, and a daughter Trystan Hawkins. Bishop Hawkins also had a granddaughter, Jahve Hawkins, and a grandson, Jamie Daniel Hawkins.
Bishop Hawkins started his career in one of his brother's chorales, "The Northern California State Youth Choir" of the Church of God in Christ. Later, he accompanied his brother Edwin and founded The Edwin Hawkins Singers. This collaborative effort produced the hit song "Oh Happy Day", which became one of the first gospel songs to cross over onto mainstream music charts.
Walter Hawkins left The Edwin Hawkins Singers in the early 1970s to establish the Love Center Church in Oakland, California. He and his Love Center Choir had considerable success with their "Love Alive" series of recordings, which sold well over a million copies from the 1970s through the 1990s. "Love Alive IV", released in 1990, was #1 on the Billboard Gospel Album charts, where it stayed for 33 weeks. In all, Walter Hawkins produced and/or collaborated on 116 hit songs which were listed on the Billboard Gospel Music charts.
Walter Hawkins and his groups were frequent musical collaborators, and recorded with Van Morrison, Diahann Carroll, Sylvester (singer), Jeffrey Osborne, among many others.
Albums - Do Your Best - Solo Album (1972)
- Love Alive - Love Center Choir (1975)
- Jesus Christ Is the Way - The Hawkins Family (Light, 1977)
- Love Alive 2 - Love Center Choir (Light, 1978)
- The Hawkins Family Live (Light, 1980)
- Gospel (Savoy, 1982
- I Feel Like Singing - Solo Album (Light, 1983)
- Love Alive 3 - Love Center Choir (Light, 1984)
- Special Gift - Hawkins Family (Light, 1988)
- Love Alive 4 - Love Center Choir (Malaco, 1990)
- New Dawning - Hawkins Family (Bellmark, 1996)
- Love Alive, Vol. 5: 25th Anniversary Reunion 1 - Love Center Choir (Interscope, 1998)
- Take Courage - Hawkins Family (Bellmark, 2000)
- A Song In My Heart - Solo Album (Coda/Red-Sony, 2005)
I heard allegations of homosexuality since the early 80's. Interesting why the secretary would not say homosexuality is a sin.

Seems like answers were politician like answers.
