Here's some wonderful WORD about the glory of the work of the cross of Jesus in our lives.
In
1 Sam 5, when reading of the ark of the covenant's capture by the Philistines, there is a wonderful parallel to the Gospel account of Jesus' cross. Dagon was an idol in the shape of a FISH with a HUMAN HEAD and HUMAN HANDS. When the ark was positioned in its temple by the Philistines, the second day saw the idol turned and made to bow down before the ark as in worship by the power of God. The third day saw it turned and bowed once again, but this time with its head and hands broken off.
The Young's Literal Translation actually words it like this, showing us the picture in vivid reality.
1 Samuel 5:4 YLT And they rise early in the morning on the morrow, and lo, Dagon is fallen on its face to the earth, before the ark of Jehovah, and the head of Dagon, and the two palms of its hands are cut off at the threshold, only the fishy part hath been left to him;
Think of the devil as Dagon, and the human head and hands as OUR HEADS (minds) and HANDS (actions), that need to be broken off the devil so he cannot use them any more. And think of how this was done on the third day the Ark was in Dagon's temple, while Jesus was three days in the grave when he resurrected!
