A young girl who has a facebook account at home was forced to give the school her facebook password to a sheriff's deputy. She said in her account from home that a school monitor was being mean to her. that was all she said, no threats were made.
Big brother does not have the right to monitor our personal communications as long as we obey the law.

Perhaps it was merely a hypothetical?

Re: facebook

I have heard that employers are wanting people to give them access to their social network pages. There is nothing on mine that would excite comment, but I would be reluctant to just hand that information over to anyone that I or my immediate family was not already well acquainted with.

I won't even hand that information TOO my immediate family, much less an employer. LOL

Re: facebook

I am not doubting the truth of the story, just would like to see for myself what the article is all about. How can a deputy force a minor to give private information?

Re: facebook

I don't have a Facebook. I've seen too many people fight over Facebook. Too much trouble imo.

Re: facebook

http://www.redorbit.com/news/technol...book-incident/

In order to gain access to comments a 12-year old student allegedly made on Facebook, a school in Minnewaska, Minnesota ordered the student to reveal her username and password for the social networking site. The American Civil Liberties Union filed suit on behalf of the student against the Minnewaska Area Schools and Pope County, claiming administrators “violated a middle school student’s constitutional rights in two incidents involving Facebook.”

Facebook comments in question include comments that a school hall monitor had been “mean” to the 12-year old, known as R.S. and that the student “hated” the hall monitor. After discovering the comments, staff at the Minnewaska Middle School issued detention and told the student to apologize. The school principal claimed the comments constituted bullying.

A second incident occurred when another student’s mother claimed her son and R.S. used computers to talk about sex. To investigate the complaint the school “forced R.S. to give them login information to her Facebook and email accounts,” according to a statement on the ACLU website. The sheriff’s deputy was present at the time, though no warrant was issued.
