Obama: "Trayvon Could Have Been Me..."
SOURCE LINK
Obama and Holder won't shut up about TM. They keep making this guy out to be some choir boy.
First, Obama says if he had a son, it'd be Trayvon.
Now, he's saying "Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago.”
Quote:
Obama also said, “Reasonable doubt was relevant, and they rendered a verdict. Once the jury's spoken, that's how our system works.”
Obama said he was "bouncing around" ideas with his staff on how to respond to the Zimmerman verdict, adding, "I think it is going to be important for us to do some soul searching." Pushing against Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law, Obama stated, "If Trayvon Martin was of his age and armed, could he have stood his ground on that sidewalk?"
Finally, Obama went into the racial complexities of the Martin situation: "A lot of African-American boys are painted with a broad brush...If a white male teen was involved in the same kind of scenario, both the outcome and the aftermath might have been different." He did say, "As difficult and as challenging as this whole episode has been, I don't want us to lose sight that things are getting better...We're becoming a more perfect union, not a perfect union, but a more perfect union."
|
What about Jaden Donald? What about Damani Henard, Ed Cooper, or Joseph Brewer, Jr?
So sick of this racist President pushing race as a factor. "If a white male teen was involved in the same kind of scenario, both the outcome and the aftermath might have been different."
Dear sweet Jesus, help me. This is working on my last nerve.

"35 years ago, I could have been a Smoking pot racist, fighting and beating up Hispanics."
Well, I don't know if he beat up any Hispanics, but we do know he was a pot smoking racist.

Re: Obama: "Trayvon Could Have Been Me..."
So I'm watching the video of Obama giving his views about TM, etc etc and I wondered....why is Obama talking about this. He knows it's a hugely divisive issue; he knows he's going to take a lot of heat for commenting on it and taking TM's side on the issue.
Then it dawns on me....Obama had to control the news cycle. This is BRILLIANT strategy by Obama and the West Wing of the WH.
Today it was announced that Detroit filed for bankruptcy; and anyone who pays attention in politics can well remember Obama's victory lap around Detroit, where he proclaimed that he and his administration did not let Detroit go bankrupt. Obama also blasted Romney for saying he would allow Detroit to file bankruptcy, that it would be a good thing for the city to do so. Obama jumped all over Romney's comments.
Well here we are less than a year later and Detroit is bankrupt.
So, Obama had a choice. Either get pummeled for his premature celebration, or be the darling of MSNBC and the blacks that he is and shift focus from Detroit to his "surprise" appearance at the WH Press Conference.
Good politics. Dumb Presidential move, IMO makes him racially-biased, small and stupid for taking TM's side; but a brilliant political move.

What I walked away with from his speech is that the problems that blacks are having is going back to "slavery".

Right. I thought the same when he was saying that we need to consider the "historical" record as reason for the angst and anger in the black community.
And even when he talked about black on black crime, without naming it as such, he blamed the violence in the communities on anger stemming from the historical issues.
It was just a terrible press conference. Again, great thinking to take the press' attention away from and off of Detroit; but truly a lot of what he said made no sense whatsoever.

Oh, and when he mentioned something about if he saw any violence, he would tell them it stains the memory of TM. (paraphrased) I couldn't help but wonder if he hasn't turned on the tv or read the paper or if he's just in a bubble and his staff hasn't told him about the protesters who have thrown rocks at cars, attacked pedestrians and stopped traffic on the freeway...

I was glad he did interject that even though I don't trust him much.
