Someone recently gave me a book (free) that is written by a man named K. P. Yohannan called "Revolution in World Missions". A website to see more about this book is
http://revolutionbook.org/ You can also order your own free copy of this book.
After reading this book, it answered a lot of questions that I've always had about the mission field. The West is so intent on sending its missionaries to foreign countries to share the gospel, but the obvious problem with this is that they do not know the culture, or language, or have difficulty able to blend in and communicate with the indigenous people. And too, many times the Western missionaries seek to change the culture of the people they reach with the gospel, in order to try to bring them the Western culture.
This book presents a totally different concept, where those who are blessed in financial ways, would financially support indigenous missionaries to work among their own people. Many times what these missionaries need is financial support, and discipleship, in order to reach their own people. In this way, our $$ are much better spent actually on the field, helping those in need, instead of trying to train, send, and deputize people who know nothing about the culture, people, and language.
The main goal of Gospel for Asia (their website is
http://www.gfa.org/) is to spend all $$ given to send right to the mission field, directly to the need.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a heart for missions. It has really blessed me.
