UPCI, ALJC, PAW - Is This New or Normal Occurance?

In the past few weeks, Rev. David Bernard has visited and preached at the church pastored by the Superintendent of the ALJC, and also spoke at the PAW Convention in Detroit at the church pastored by the Prelate of the PAW, Bishop Charles H. Ellis III.

Unfortunately the video was on FB and not YouTube, else I would post it. In his comments to the PAW (video is on their FB page), Rev. Bernard quoted Acts 2:42 and said we don't have to be part of the same organization or church, but we need to have the same doctrine, we need to pray together, we need to worship together and we need to have church together. (cue praise break)

Is it normal for the UPCI GS to visit and speak at other organization's churches or conferences, or is this something new?

"And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in
breaking of bread, and in prayers."

If it wasn't normal, it should be! No one one man, or organization, knows EVERYTHING
that we (the Church) need to know: even as not all individual members (in the Church)
are in the same level of maturity, or all have the same calling.

We ALL need to ask for wisdom to learn how to GIVE what we have received of the Lord;
and to learn how to RECEIVE what others have received for our benefit.

"For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, and for the edifying
of the body of Christ."

I don't know about the leaders speaking at each others churches but I seem to recall back in the 70's when I attended GC's that representatives of the PAW And ALJC would be on the platform and recognized. That is a far cry from preaching though!

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Does it matter if it is unusual or not? Bro Bernard can preach wherever he is invited and desires to preach. He is a very eloquent and insightful man. He wasn't picked to be GS because of his good looks.

I applaud his efforts to have fellowship with those of similar doctrine. Of course there will be some who will see this for things it isn't but I genuinely don't care what those people have to say on this matter.

this is the mindset that scares me. Fellowship should be between those with RIGHT doctrine.

Right Doctrine or do you mean same standards? Your comments seems to say that some are not doctrinal sound. Pastor Bernard would not fellowship with such if this was the case.

Not all UPCs have the exact same "standard"

Some standards are doctrinal some are not, so no I am not referring to standards alone. I do not see that the PAW is doctrinally sound as an organization. Pretty concerned about the other two as well..

So what doctrine are you basing it on? I understand what you are saying but I am not sure as to why you could not have fellowship with your fellow brethren even inside of your organization. Jesus sat among people who were not "saved" and were totally opposite of what he was however, that did not stop him from reaching out to them. You have family I am sure and I am assuming you have a family member who may not be saved do you not love them, or even visit them or even check on them? We can get some times hooked on standards and confuse them as doctrine and if they are not the same as ours then we don't fellowship. You can learn a lot (good and bad) from seeing things from a different view.
