Leah Remini & Scientology: Sounds Familiar

I saw Leah Remini on ABC's Good Morning America today interviewed about her departure from the Church of Scientology. She talked about how she lived in fear of being "written up" by church members for saying or doing things the church frowned upon. She talked about being out to dinner and living in fear that someone would see her drinking alcohol and report her. I guess you had to pay fines to the church if you violated their policies. She said that the church ultimately would pressure you to choose the church over family relationships. She left for that reason. She didn't want her daughter to have to grow up feeling like she had to make that choice.

Some of what she said sounded eerily familiar.

Re: Leah Remini & Scientology: Sounds Familiar

Some people need to consider that their experience in their religion was a 50 50 situation. Not everyone has a bad experience, no matter what religion they are in. What I find so simply sad is that individuals who have left a religion cannot seem to get past their bad experiences. Yet feel the need to find those still invovled and beat them over and over again with a tale of pain on the tree of woe. While others try to be understanding of the plight which the individual may have suffered they just didn't go through the same experience. Yet, the offended parties most times aren't looking to forgive and heal but keep the wounds festering and oozing with religious puss.

I read most of the article. Sounds to me like she wants to save someone else from the pain she went through. Didn't sound like she is on a crusade to get Scientology either.

Any body who tells you what to think, control your actions or who you associate with sounds like they have control and abuse issues. I don't care if it is the Baptist, Pentecostal or Scientologist church down the street. No one has the right to control your mind and enslave you.

Re: Leah Remini & Scientology: Sounds Familiar

It is bad enough that people feel worse after going to church. They then make the decision to leave weeks, month or even years later. But you always have some people who justify abuse. It is WRONG that anybody is abused. Maybe it was the pastor, bishop or the head of Scientology but their are plenty of people who throw rocks at the person who left to defend their leader or church. Just sad.

God sticks up for people, he doesn't tear them down. He makes every effort to restore them(Ezekiel 34). If someone leaves a church pray for them but put down the sticks and stones. To me Leah Remini has a lot of courage.

Oh and Scientology is a CULT.
