When and how did 2 Corinthians 6:17 turn into a go to scripture concerning clothing??

17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

Concerning clothing you ask?

The answer is simple: Dressing like a slut/hooker makes one look unclean.

And of course it applies to a lot of other things, like gambling, drinking, etc.

Just my simple opinion.

Good question if there be any here who thinks outward dress is all there is to holiness. The context seems to be referring to separating from unbelievers. Unbelievers or our relationships with them is a major cause of sin.

It also is saying we shouldnt model ourselves after unbelievers. You are going to look like someone. If you look like the world or the people in the church. If the people in the church look exactly like the people in the world, who are they modeling theirself after?

Usually when people speak of this passage they are saying you should come out from amongst them in every way. While dress should be on the list somewhere. It's not the precipice of what this text is staying. Although it shouldn't be left out either. I find it hard to believe anyone taught this apart, from coming out from amongst them in every way. So sounds like to me a classic case of someone highlighting what they didn't like about it, to get around what was being truthfully said. Though I guarantee you that was said about the dress, but I also guarantee you it was also being said about everything else to. People love to throw the bath water out with the baby...
