Here is an eventual sermon I will use,
but for tomorrow, I am using this as a article for our local paper.
Kissed A Toad Lately?
How many have heard of the old fairy tale of the princess kissing the toad and finding her prince? How many singles really wish it was that easy to find their spouse? As I smile at the thought of finding my own princess, I really wonder if I am the right toad.
But on that note, do we really think approaching the throne of God to be just as simple? Then why do we so often want to talk to God through someone else, or from afar? We have been taught to fear God and his touch, when all he really wants to do is surround us with his presence. He wants to come on behind the veil that has seperated us from him. In the old testiment, the high priest had to prepare himself to go there, he had to be presentable. While we really can not make ourselves presentable, the sacrifice of the blood of Christ is our covering to approach the mercy of God. Our worship is the incense that covers the taintedness of our minds that we have encountered in our daily lives. These two things is what allows us to penetrate the relm that God inhabbits, it brings Him to us, and what we can not do, His mercy and grace makes up the difference.
While we are supposed to have reverence (solem respect) for God (
Proverbs 1:7), we have the right to come to him to pray, (
Hebrews 4:16). "Let us come boldly before his throne that we may find mercy and grace in time of need. ". God wants us to seek his face (
Jeremiah 29:11-12) He wants to give us so much, He wants to be our help in our time of need. But we must walk with him, we must seek his face. When we do overcome the fear of approaching God, we will find that he is not a toad, but our prince of peace. (
Isaiah 9:6)
