For all elders and those in the 'know'...

I realize we can't shut the barn door NOW, but I have some 'Point of Order' questions...

1. Who is eligible to vote on the national scale?!
a. Is it all card carrying ministers, or is it pastors only?!
b. If it is just pastors and ass't pastors, suppose a church has more ass't or associate pastors than you can shake a stick at...who decides which one gets to vote?!
2. Are credentials checked to see if the one voting IS eligible?!

3. Do you think a two-thirds margin is better than majority in national voting?!

Anyone...?!

It requires seating in a Sectional Conference as a duly approved delagate for a church to vote in District and National elections.

There is no proxy voting allowed either.

Good questions.

1. Pastors, one assistant pastor per church, full-time evangelists and Christian educators, missionaries, and HQ executives. Also anyone deriving full-time income from ministry can vote if they present a letter to the roster committee.

2. No, credentials are not checked at GC. Anyone without a beard and in a suit can vote, and no one would say a thing.

3. No, simple majority should rule.

If a 2/3 majority had been needed to pass a resolution, most of the resolutions concerning "standards" would have never passed!

But couldn't the unethical among us play the system by bringing in more than one ass't or whatever?!

I love that part, Pastor P, "Anyone without a beard and in a suit can vote, and no one would say a thing."

And in a majority vote, if it is 50-50, it just takes one vote to tip the scale...hardly seems right to me.

Just a layperson's view...

Sure they could.

I think, at a minimum, we should require credentials be shown at the door before anyone can enter a business session. I also think registered voters should sit in delegations by District just like at a political convention.

This would help sort out confusion.

I agree...so, now this is really deep, Elder...

If this uneducated WOMAN can figure this out, respectfully, why haven't the powers that be?!

I've got a feeling there are enough "powers that be" who lurk on here....don't be surprised if things change next year.
