Can I confess I didn't say anything but secretly agreed...

I don't know but what I think I understood was the preacher was saying some people take it on themselves to hurt others...Maybe he said boxer I thought he said Kick boxer...I think he was refering to people trying to kill their brothers...I was just listening... (it was just men talking I was sitting with my quite and meek spirit...ha............)

Savate is a French form of the martial sport of kick boxing. To compete you have to be pretty tough. I've seen a Thai variety - but I can't hang in there watching people get bloddied. For "sport" I prefer the things that lift the spirit.

I can't speak for Trouvere, but it sounds like she's referring to the non-contact forms. There are many martial arts classes that emphasize form and discipline, along with a good cardio work out. I took Tae Kwan Do for my phys-ed credit in college. We never sparred but the grading was tough enough anyways.

I think Sister A's brethren may have had a real battle in mind. There is something primal that comes out when a bunch of guys look into the eyes of two men about to compete for blood. To be successful you have to have a killer instinct. You can't stop or even let up until your opponent is completly defeated, or worse.

In the ministry there really is a spirit like that. If the "opponent" happens to be "the Adversary" then well and good. However, often "the opponent" ends up being a brother who is percieved as being "soft on the message" or "weak on holiness." Then we see things like that letter that Thad linked to.

Ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ should be healers not hurters.

Just my 2˘.

Yes, I agree that is what they were talking about. My husband wishes that souls would not be destroyed in the mist of differences...he is a gentleman and has a godly heart and a true burden for souls. He is a man of passion for what he believes yet he is kind EVEN when he disagrees enough to walk away. He does not leave a trail of innocents dead.

I loved meeting Bro. Alvear! He has the kindest, sweetest spirit. You are fortunate to have such a man for a husband.
