"Official Holiday Meal And Goodie" Thread

Hey Ladies and Gents,

Let's take a break from all the TV and Card turnin stuff to consentrate on the two most important Holidays of the year.....Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We're not having the traditional Thanksgiving dinner this year. We are having......

Prime Rib (cooked by me) and
Filet Mignon
Mashed potatoes
Green beans
Corn
Patsa Salad
Rolls
Homemade pies
Cakes

Lots and lots of goodies.

We're going to Oklahoma, to my sisters and then Friday Morning........I'm going to join the other idiots (or smart people if they get good deals) hit the streets to fight to gather my plunder.

Oh yummy!

It's been 4 or 5 years since I've had a traditional Thanksgiving so I think I'm going to go all traditional and all out this year. I also have an entire week off from school and quite possibly work as well. Weeeeeee

We'll start with a nice big turkey.
Green bean casserole
Homemade rolls
Mashed potatoes
Gravy
Stuffing
Baked sweet potatoes, lots of brown sugar but no marshmallows tyvm
Pumpkin pie with homemade whipped cream
Some sort of marshmallow fluff salad
Probably a jello salad too

I'd better find someone to invite over. I used to go overboard when I cooked a from scratch meal everyday. Given how long it's been since I've done that, plus the opportunity, I might go *really* overboard.

Chill a metal mixing bowl and the beaters. Put heavy whipping cream into it and start beating. If you have a stand mixer, this is definitely the time to use it. lol You sprinkle powdered sugar in as it's beating. When it forms soft peaks, it's done.

It is so very, very different from Cool Whip. I have a place in my heart for both Cool Whip and homemade whipped cream. lol The homemade falls pretty quickly. You want to make it and serve it pretty much immediately. It is so good though. Well worth making every now and then.

Yeah, that's why I started making my own whipped cream. lol Some foods you grow up with just remain comfort foods no matter what you learn about them later in life though.

Another variation is homemade "Chocolate Whip Cream" - same as above only with the powdered sugar, I also add powdered baking chocolate. Of coarse, I don't use it on pumpkin pie!!.... but it is delicious on a lot of other things.

I didn't think the deals were as good. You can't get the deals unless you fight the crowd, right?

Now I'm trying to figure out what I should make that would be good with chocolate whipped cream. I'm going to have to try that for sure.
