He was dead for three days and three nights. He died on Thursday night, did He not? That's what I've always heard.
Actually, If you will re-read the verse, you will see that when they came to the tomb (as it began to dawn on the 1st day of the week) he was ALREADY risen.
The days started at sun DOWN.
He was crucified on a Wednesday. There were two Sabbaths that week.
The one that fell on that Thursday (The High Sabbath) and the weekly Sabbath.

I know there were two Sabbaths that year, but was told it was Thursday Sabbath. If He was crucified on Wednesday, why did Joseph get him off the cross because the Sabbath was about to begin at 6pm? It didn't start until 6pm on Thursday.
He could have risen ten minutes before they arrived. Who knows?
According to Matthew 28, the angel rolled the stone away as the women were on their way, or so it seems. Now, whether or not that's when He arose is anyone's guess, as it doesn't say.
Strangely enough, in Mark 14, it appears that Jesus partook of the passover of unleavened bread. Read through verse 16. Weird. Never noticed that before.
Anyway, this is interesting. Let me know what else you find out.

What relevance is his rising on Sunday?
Sunday resurrection is Pagan Catholic and Catholic proof for the day of worship to be moved from Sabbath to Sunday.

My sweet bippy isn't up for bet, but thank you. I fail to see the relevance either way. If you're concerned about the "day of worship" - whether it is Saturday or Sunday, maybe your religion is pagan as well. EVERY DAY should be a day of worship for the NT church! Where in scripture do any of the apostles or writers indicate that we should esteem one day over another? I find the opposite to be true - every day is the same. Tradition says that we gather for worship on Sunday. So what? We could gather every day, every other day, every Wednesday only, every Friday night only, and still not be in contradiction to what scripture teaches us. The whole notion of "once a week day of worship" is passed down from RCC and could very well be pagan in itself - either that or another move by the RCC to mimic the Jewish Law of Sabbath.
Also, I will challenge your statement in another post where you said that Jesus was in the ground for three days and three nights. I don't have time right now to do a full blown study of it, but as I recall, the gospels all say He ROSE on the third day. If He had been in the ground for three full days and three full nights, he would have risen on the FOURTH day.
