Nosey Question

Just a nosey question. What do you think is the average pay a visiting preacher makes per service? I.E. Sunday am and Sunday pm. I know it probably varies on who it is. Noone may want to answer this, just curious.

Dad would give at least $150-200 .... sometimes as much as $300-450.

It doesn't only vary on who it is, it varies on the size of the church, how big the city is, etc.

There are some visiting preachers that end up giving the local church money, rather than accepting money from them.

Some small churches will give $50, $100, $300 per service depending on their ability. Some churches don't even get enough in to pay the church electric bill, let alone pay tithes, parsonage, visiting preachers, etc.

Also, $100 sometimes isn't even enough to cover the costs of the trip, unless it is very close to their home. Some preachers don't worry about the money... some won't share their "word from God" unless they get X number of dollars... (kinda like a gunslinger for hire in the Old West).

My question is not to judge what ministers make. I was just wondering as to rather our church was paying too little to visiting ministers.

I would say, "Yes..." if it's a good preacher who earnestly poured his heart out and really ministered to the folks in your church and the guests. If the people were encouraged, educated and uplifted and the pastor's burden was shared, then you can't pay the visiting preacher enough. But those kind of preachers understand that.

The most I've made preaching is $400 ... but I also got there early to help them install a new sound system.

I've also preached pro-bono .... either way .... it's a privilege.
