Do you carry your birth certificate every where you go.

No, I have a Driver's License and nothing suspicious to warrant the asking. I didn't see the broadcast and so I would wonder why they were suspicious as to whether he was legal or not. If he is a truck driver on the interstate, that might make me wonder where he was from.

I generally overlook typos. I make so many of my own. I didn't even notice it. LOL!

wondering who one is and where they are from is not reasonable suspicion nor probable cause in a criminal setting...both necessary for detention...I would sue the whole group starting from the individual that took my liberty all the way up to the state that required him to do it...I'm sure the officer was carrying his birth certificate too.

Yes, I agree. It's just that I am not clear as to why he was stopped. Was he at a Weigh Station not having his paperwork filled out properly? Was a taillight out? We don't know these things.

But what about not having proper paperwork or a burnt taillight would arouse suspicion of being in the country illegally? Thats my point of the AZ law. Without profiling people into a catagory its not enforcable. Who carries their birth certificate around in this country? Whats next, if you look like a drug dealer you must have your pay stub from work or lose your money? We have a drug problem here too. There is a border problem but taking peoples rights away in an attempt to solve it makes less sense than fixing the border troubles...not locking them but fixing the process.

It's Federal law, not just AZ law, that non-citizens carry their documentation on them. Surely you, with your vast experience with visas, etc, should know this.

It's also required of me, if I visit a foreign country to do the same. Why should the US be any different and give a pass for anyone to just wade through the rio grande and waltz in here, enjoy our benefits without following the law.

Ridiculous.

Ridiculous.
And how is a policeman supposed to know if, or suspect that, someone is a foreigner?

http://www.azfamily.com/news/local/M...-91769419.html

Sounds like a bogus, trumped up story which would be typical before the Arizona law is passed. Not believing this at all. Something else had to have been going on. ICE doesn't get all excited about deporting, so something is fishy.

I read somewhere that the incident happened at 202 and Val Vista, meaning that it was federal authorities involved and not local law enforcement. Not buying the story.
