I just read a study on AOL that 1 in 7 U.S. adult is illiterate. Is it just me or is that a staggeringly high number? I'm afraid to even go and see how that compares to other nations. How is that even possible?
What exactly is "illiterate"? Seems to me that people have thier own definition of what words mean.
No, according to the article, they were using being unable to read a newspaper or pill bottle as examples.
I think in all fairness, the majority who cannot read the newspaper or pill bottles has something to do with the fact that many are immigrants that have yet to learn the English language.

I have heard of people getting really sick or dying, because they couldn't read their pill bottle. When buying food they look at the picture.

A lot of times these statistics are unreliable, you can't just run a poll in one section of the country and expect it to stand for the country as a whole. That's what the liberals do with abortion support and Obama support
