Re: The word 'standards'...

So, has anyone figured out where this referring to dress codes as standards started?

Yes, the thread digressed some, like I figured it would.

I'm pretty certain the term "standards" was used because a standard is a flag, something that denotes who you are, whose team you belong to, what country you are from... that sort of thing. "Holiness Standards" obviously was meant to denote belonging to a Holy God...
I don't prefer the term myself, there are other terms that better describe the things I do or don't do.

However, I would be interested to know who or what group actually coined the term "Holiness Standard"... when it was first used. That would be interesting to know.

Only in living for God we exspect no standards. God is so desparate and needs us so badly He has no say in our lives where barriers are involved.
Is it despising what I believe to ask where the phraseology came from, Elder?!

I certainly, certainly don't hold the line with those who might denigrate what I do and why I do it. Further, I can't speak for anyone other than me, but I think you know me better than that by now to know my question was a real one...

Honestly, I can't not think of one Christian who doesn't believe that living for God means no standards. Our mistake is in measuring the whole with appearance alone.

Yes it would, Missy, especially in light of those I mentioned last night in my post...my Bible Methodist friend and the women from TX...

I bet some big name preacher found out his conference sermon was not working.

I bet some year around 1960 and he started shouting Holiness is what we stand for...

We are Standard bearers of the truth....

We dress this way and we look this way because we have the truth...

You write the rest of the story.

Dress has always been aligned with having the truth.

When for the most part standards were nothing more then a calling card in a group of sectarian Pentecostals.

Not having standards is not the point.

Preaching them as part of salvation is the wrong point.

Hey!

We can't afford them to leave.

Let''s create an elitest group set aside.

Those on the platform have to abide by "The" Standards...

Re: The word 'standards'...

How come the sunday school teacher can cut her hair.

But the piano player has to look like a Morman?

How come the offering taker can have a beard.

But the bass player can't?

Who knows!!!
