I'm just curious here... You're "Jesus name pentecostal" but the church/pastors are not?

(Just trying to make sense out of it, since most Jesus name pentecostals wouldn't want a pastor that isnt.)

There is a lot of diversity among Pentecostals. I had a pastor years ago who was the UPC Ohio District Supt. and he told us not to refer to ourselves as Pentecostal because there were so many different doctrines among Pentecostals. He told us to refer to ourselves as Apostolic. However, there is great diversity among Apostolics also. For years the term Apostolic meant belief in the Holy Ghost Baptism and had nothing to do with water baptism.

I call myself a Jesus' name Pentecostal for a couple of reasons. I call myself Pentecostal because I have received the experience that about one third of the New Testament church (about 120 out of over 500 brethren) received on the Day of Pentecost as recorded in Acts chapter 2. I call myself Jesus' name because I think we should do all things (pray, cast out demons, heal the sick, baptize in water, etc.) in Jesus' name (i.e. under His authority). Whenever I have baptized people in water I have said "I baptize you in the name of Jesus Christ." That is my personal belief and the way I understand Scripture but I do not make it a test of fellowship.

I agree. Calling on the name of the Lord I would say is when the one doing the baptizing says "I baptize you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ" That is calling on the nameof the Lord and is applied and that person now has the mark of Jesus Christ on them.

Your post immediately brings to mind Mark 16:16

Mr 16:16 - He that believeth(trusts) and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

The implications of the master are clear, if you believe(trust) you will be baptized gladly and thus salvation is at hand, if you don't believe(trust) in Him and His Word, baptism will not be an issue as a result.

Many believe in Jesus, that is, that he exists, not many trust.

I agree with the idea that you must believe or you probably won't go and get baptized. It is the will in us allowing us to do it. After belief an action you do is Mark 16:16 is the action of the will fulfilling that believing. The Ethiopian eunich was told by Phillip "if you believe you may be baptized" The eunuch said I believe and Phillip baptized him straightway(immediately).

Baptism: All other scriptures aside, interested in what responses my brothers who, like me, agree Baptism is necessary to effect the work of finished work of the cross, would interpret 1 Corinthians 1:10-17.

Paul was not called to baptize, but to preach the gospel. He only baptized a few converts. Is Paul speaking to his greater call (which would include believers being baptized)? He's obviously involved in early rhetoric in this passage that is imploring irony and sarcasm, but does he really not baptize because he knew they'd get carried away with spiritual pride and turn their faith into a contest of wisdom over who's following who?

Interested in your thoughts.

Yes, it implies he separated the gospel from baptism. Not to downplay it's importance, but this would surely be a question about "how does Paul view baptism in the perspective of the Gospel?"
