Re: Obama: 'Lipstick on a pig' comment. Not Smart.
I prefaced my earlier comment by admitting that I may be missing the point of the thread. I was not sure if the issue was with what Obama initially said or what he has said since...I'm actually still not sure . Either way, I have not heard all of his reactions since he said it, but I am genuinely surprised at some people's reaction to his initial comments. They have been doing this back and forth thing the entire election. One side will say something that resonates well with their base and the other side would find a way to flip it into a jab. I don't see what the big deal is. I heard Palin herself make many a jab and play on Obama's catchphrases and other things.
If "putting lipstick on a pig" was not an old, established phrase then I may feel that he was being much more juvenile than the other juvenile behavior, but as it stands I really don't see the big deal or difference.

Good article! My take on it also!
(excerpt)
Quote:
Obama's woes have nothing to do with Lipstick
For two years, Obama played the golf course of presidential politics with the ice-cold self-assuredness of a Tiger Woods. But since securing the Democratic nomination, he’s made a series of strategic errors that could jeopardize his chances in November.
(note: points are elaborated on in article)
Declining to take federal financing for the general election
Declining McCain’s offer to hold ten town hall debates
Failing to state a sweeping, but concrete, policy idea
Remaining trapped in professor-observer speak
Failing to attack McCain early
Does all of this mean that Obama is somehow doomed? Of course not. He is a quick study and a fast learner, and the team of McCain and Palin is capable of making their own set of mistakes.
But if I were an Obama partisan I would be worried that his mistakes have a common thread - pride.
Obama seems to want to do things on his own, and on his own terms. It’s understandable. Obama has his own crowd – from Chicago, from Harvard, and from a new cadre of wealthy, Ivy-educated movers and shakers.
“He’s an arrogant (bleep),” one of the latter told me today. “He wants to do it his way, and his way alone.” But politics doesn’t work that way. And has Obama should know, or is about to find out, that everyone needs a little help.

George, we've got a whole thread regarding this in the FH - Is this blaspheming? Several have already sent emails complaining.

Of course Obama meant for it to have a double en tundra.
He made things worse/better last night when he said that if anything, Palin would be the lipstick to McCain's pig if you wanted to use the analogy in that manner, which makes PERFECT sense considering Palin's gender was one of the biggest factors tht got her the spot.

Just a side note I am so thankful for this forum. I live 30 miles from the church and most of the poeple there live around the church . Needless to say I don't get much fellowship time to talk to people about this stuff. it is nice to know that there is others out there that have the same views and beliefs. Also nice to read others opinions and get another angle on things . So thanks
