I'm thinking about the people who work at Jeep. They make a very healthy income. And even more when they work over-time. But a large part of their total package is their incredibly generous benefits package.
So if it's 82K INCLUDING benefits, in this area, that would be a pretty good figure. I'd say it would mean they'd take home $50-60K, plus they'd have their benefits. In most cases around here it would also include a parsonage and utilities on top of the salary. I've heard people complain that pastors make that much "when they don't even have to pay rent or a mortgage". But I remind them when I hear that we are paying for our houses right now while we are living in them. One day, most of these pastors will retire. And when they do, they will need a home to live in. So they'll need to have enough $$$'s saved so they can afford to pay for that home. I wouldn't want to see them having to start paying on a mortgage at 65 or 70 years of age!

I believe that to be accuracte, total compensation including benefits.

Re: Some opinions wanted
I don't know which is worse....taking four offerings or taking an hour for one offering!!!
I have only walked out of one service, but that is because Mrs. Steinway thought it would be too embarrassing in other services to make a scene! I have regretted not going ahead anyways!
I have a low tolerance level for stupidity, insensitivity, and ignorance.

Re: Some opinions wanted
I don't know this church or this situation well enough to make a snap judgement, but I do feel however that very often churches in general make too many appeals for money as very often the congregations are taxed to death.

Re: Some opinions wanted
My wife walked out of a service once and I did later after a preacher blasted people who worked on sunday,as I do have to work on some sundays, which is not my choice.
The brother who was a younger preacher knew my situation too.

Re: Some opinions wanted
The church I grew up in the pastor said the tithes go to support the ministry not the minister. He recieved 40% of the tithes. IMO this was a good program the more successful he was in church growth the more he made. And vice-versa.

Well, we pastored one of those churches which began with a flock of 80 and more than tripled in a year and they wanted some of our 40% back. The exact words of the board member still rings in my ears: "No minister worth his salt is worth more than $50,000.00 per year". Spoken by a factory worker with an 8th grade education who made more than $50,000.00 a year.
There are so many opinions on this. Those who work at Wal-mart and make low wages want the preacher to stay poor, and those who are CEO's of companies want the preacher to make more but not more than them.
I think any minister who truly has a heart after God will be a good steward of his personal money and I pray God bless him/her in more than enough.
God bless our Preachers/Pastors in Jesus name.

Absolutely! I was thinking - a church full of visitors is a great opportunity to preach the birth, death, and burial of Jesus Christ - not to solicit funds

Re: Some opinions wanted
I've never felt the compulsion to walk out of an Apostolic church during their service.
I would have just let those who have and are willing to give, give with the right heart.
But I went to an Apostolic church in NC that passed the offering plate 3 times in a service on many occasions because the offerings given were not enough for the church to meet their financial goals.
