Question Some opinions wanted

Today, I attended an Apostolic church that was not the one I belong to, but was visiting with a friend. It is the first time I ever got up and walked out of an assemby.

The children's Christmas program was precious but then they took tithes and offerrings, then had a 20 minute speaker on missions and took up a missionary offerring, and last but not least - they got up and began to collect money for a raffle - raffling off a "WE" whatever that is to make money to fund the church ministries all the while saying the Pastor and his wife were on a cruise in the Carribean and if you wanted to donate to have their yard landscaped please submit money to the church secretary.

Maybe it was just me but I felt like throwing up. I looked at my friend, they looked and me, and we both got up and walked out.

Am I being a flake or when did it become appropraite to have a raffle when visitors were captive at a Christmas program for children?

I was sickened, saddened, and repulsed.

Just being honest here.

Re: Some opinions wanted

I probably would not have walked out, but would have regretted not doing just that for weeks and months after wards.

Thank you. I should have walked out of a church once before and regretted it for months afterward...I decided not to make that mistake again.

Thank you for being honest.

Blessings, Rhoni

It's "wii" by the way. LOL!

Anyway, I think having a raffle during church service is horrible. I think Jesus would have been plaiting His whip. JMHO

You know - that is what I told my friend - I said, "Now I know how Jesus felt when he whipped the money changers out of the temple."

I've walked out of a church twice so far, and there were a couple of other times I wish I had. Good for you. More people should grow a couple and vote with their feet.

Re: Some opinions wanted

I walked out of a pennycostul church once over thirty years ago...it was an absolute zoo fof idiots.

Today I am more careful of what church I walk into

As for offerings. We at my church DO NOT take up offering or evne mention it.

Our Congrgation knows that the wooden boxes attached to the back walls on either side of the doors are where the offering goes.

We only pass the plate on the first Sunday of the month for our misionary pledges and that with instruction to our guests that they feel no obligation to give.

You all want to be APOSTOLIC ????? Please then , find where they ever passed offering plates in every gathering

Re: Some opinions wanted

I'm with you, Rhoni. I would've walked out as well.

Geesh! and they say that the Methodists preach about money, money, money. Good heavens!

Not only would I have walked about, but I would also take some time today or early this week to write a letter to the church and the church board to let them know that I had walked out and why. It could be said tactfully. But it needs to be said. If you, as a fellow Apostolic Christian were offended enough to walk out, imagine what any unbeliever who was there must have been thinking. These people need to know that this is not something to take lightly. People's souls are at stake!

Rhoni,
First of all, please don't think I want to tear you apart. But a couple of things jump out at me.

1. Is the raffle what you have a problem with?

2. Do you know how the pastor's trip was financed? Could it have been a gift? Was it paid for by someone else for that particular purpose?

I really can't form an opinion based on your info...
Sorry. I have strong opinions on both sides of the issue.

Since it wasn't my church I don't feel the liberty but I walked out and took my friend to my home church to hear some good Apostolic preaching.

Blessings, Rhoni
