Jesus revealed in His answer that both The First and Second Great Commandments are inseparable. They are actually two different sides of the same coin. You cannot be fulfill one without fulfilling the other also.
1 John 4:20-21
20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
22:38 This is the first and great commandment. Matt. 22:35-38

Umm no,but I am pursuing our Heavenly Father with all my might
Notice what Jesus told the lawyer..22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. Jesus did not say [that means me]..
The same scenario is played out in Mark 12..
Mar 12:28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
Mar 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
Mar 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
Mar 12:31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
Mar 12:32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
The scribe did not say "none other but YOU Jesus"..this should be speaking volumes to somebody but as usual it will fly right over and be explained away

Re: The First And Great Commandment
Ha, your logic does not make sense. Your are practicing bad hermeneutics there.
Because Jesus was only quoting scripture to the Scribe. Only the Spirit will reveal who Christ is. We see that in Matthew 16:16-17. You can not logically reason out God. For only the Father will reveal the Son.
First, did the Scribe have a revelation of who Jesus was. No. For he only called him "Master" (Rabbi or Teacher). He was probably one of the people that Jesus was referring to when he asked "“Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"
Why would Jesus call himself "The Son of Man"? Because only the Father will reveal who the Son of God is Matthew 16:17. And why would he want to hide himself. Matthew 16:20 -Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.
The question I have for you is: Who is your Savior? Jesus the Christ?
“Before Me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Me. I, even I, am the Lord, and besides Me there is no Savior” ( Isaiah 43:10,11).
If you believe that Jesus is your Savior, then you must believe that he is Yahweh: The God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob. The Great I AM. The Great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. - Titus 2:13

This is no logic..this is pure scripture..All I have done is post scripture of the same scenario...

The scribe asked Jesus [Jesus being a Jew} Teacher, what is the greatest commandment?..Jesus quotes him what every JEW knows and BELIEVE..THE SHEMA!..a standard of all Jews..Jesus was a Jew perhaps we forget sometimes. You are correct about Matthew 16.Jesus did ask WHO do men say that I am..Ever notice not one person even recognized Him as God? Not even Thomas or any of the Jews, yet alone recognizing Him as Messiah? Peter was giving the revelation by God yes,But Peter confessed Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God,Christ of course means "anointed" God does not need anointing friend, this alone dispels the notion that God was a man.

He recognized him as Master,Teacher..same thing Nick at night called Jesus in John 3,even O Nick at night understood Jesus was from God,could it be Jesus already has the rep? possibly we do not know,The Jews were not looking for the Messiah to be God anyway, today they are still waiting for the Messiah, ask any real Jew if they are expecting the Messiah to be God,you might be surprised at the answer.Still when Jesus asked not even the common man detected He was even Messiah..yet alone God?

Over 70 times Jesus calls himself the "Son of man" a clear reference to a human being,Did the Jews know of any other Prophet called "Son of man?" yes,Ezekiel, the Jews understood He was a man..Jesus also claimed to be the son of man in front of the council upon his arrest..
Mat 26:63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
Mat 26:64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
Mat 26:65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.
Why so upset? cause He posted something on AFF and people argue? No..Caiaphas understood who Jesus was claiming to be..
Dan 7:13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
Dan 7:14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

Of course God is the ONLY Savior, but that does not mean God chose and USED others AS Saviors..
Neh 9:27 Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.
Luk 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. not THE Saviour, even though Jesus was THE Saviour God chose, the means and plan God had to redeem mankind

No the Bible does not say you have to believe Jesus is God,it does say we must believe God sent his Son to be our saviour yes.,.Jesus also said if you believe in God,believe also in me...Amen and I do..

I am on the topic...
Look at what Jesus told the Lawyer,,,
22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Why did not the Lawyer do a double take and say...But...but,,,butt..that is YOU Jesus!!...?
In fact the Lawyer/scribe ended up agreeing with Jesus
Mar 12:32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
Mar 12:33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

I believe it was yet to be fully revealed that Jesus was indeed God.
