I quizzed during those years too. Met some great people. I actually quizzed for 10 years including junior bq.

Of course I am somewhat biased having participated in the program for over 30 years.
It is a great way to encourage young people to learn the Bible and draw closer to God.
This past year, my team and I attended both the WPF and the UPCI Senior quizzing finals.
All of my quizzers said this was their best summer ever.
Now as far as being fun... Bible quizzing and the trips and traveling would be very fun. The tightness of the small group of people it brings together is wonderful. I'm not disputing whether its fun or a great social activity. I'm disputing whether it actually helps anyone spiritually which is what its pushed for doing.

It's a competition and while I understand that friendly competition is one of the best motivators for doing something like memorizing the bible... i think it teaches youth to memorize the bible for the wrong reasons.
I agree with some of this, but I think it's good overall. I still remember a lot of what I learned, and it helped put scriptures into context years later.

Care to elaborate?

I don't think anyone would deny that entirely. I thought of it as more of a building block and the benfits of quizzing would be manifested later in the more mature mind. My son, who doesn't attend any church at all, has the those scriptures memorized for the rest of his life. Nobody is a finished product.
I did have one pastor say to me once that it "had become our NCAA". LOL.

Just fun a sport. Would be nice though if being spiritual was as easy as memorizing scripture. Maybe one day in these youth lives them come back to help them in time of need.

So what benefits have manifested from your son doing bible quizzing? He can recite some scriptures? Well that's what bible quizzing trains one to do... but how is that a benefit?

Exactly. And since a good majority don't want their youth involved in sports (don't agree) at least this is something to be involved in.
