Oh I understand the psychological conditioning and indoctrination. I came out of it. I was raise UPCI teaching Sunday school in my late teens, youth pastor, to church pastor, with many other titles in between. In other words in ministry for close to 30 years in UPCI.

Yes I understand, I started to question, things in my mid to late twenties and still stayed in UPCI for another 15 some years. Having been out now most of 15 years, I look back and place them in the same category as the likes of Mormonism and Jehovah witnesses. For those that would take that last statement as a knock, don't, I view all Christian churches and organizations in much the same light.

Funny thing is I still attend church, still love to gather with others of like faith. Still believe in God. Still support the church I attend monetarily. And while I may make brass statements like the one above, in a talk forum, I would never personally confront someone in person and say they were weak in faith unless I knew they were searching. To many Christians faith is so weak that if you tore down their house of cards they would loose all faith, and that is never a good thing. I truly take Paul's teaching in Romans 14 to heart, never to put a stumbling block in the path of a weaker saint.

Ridiculous.
Sorry you think I meant it that way, I was one, as Paul said "I was a Pharisee of Pharisee's", and Paul did not water down his words when he spoke against the religious Pharisee of his day, and neither did Christ.

And that is exactly what ultra con's are, religious Pharisee's of our day. And I could care less about being right. That is not the point, the point is to cause others to open their own eyes and study God's word with an open heart, with the spirit guiding rather that to accept every word preached across a pulpit. After all that is what scripture admonishes us to do.

Your last paragraph shows that you meant it that way.
I would be what you call an ultra con, and would very much disagree with your assessment.
I have studied the Word and believe that I am doing what I need to do to please God and make it to heaven.
I also will be happy if those who I would consider "liberal" make it.
Insofar as religious Pharisee's, there are those on both sides who would qualify.

You would put us in the same category as those who deny the truth of Jesus Christ? You would condemn us in the UPC to hell?

Hmm. Somehow I missed that comment.
Looks like someone is himself that of which he accuses others.

Not to speak for Godsdrummer, but I took it as him speaking about the indoctrination of the UPCI being similar to that of the Mormons and JWs, not that they're similar in doctrine.

JMO, though I could be wrong.

Yeah, that's the way I read it also.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

It is rare that a church survives a shift like he has taken. What usually happens, as in this case, is a new congregation is formed. The old moves on.

Lots of people there that loved holiness preaching. This is a case of "can two walk together except they be agreed".

And, it appears like there is a major case of immorality flowing through that congregation. I'm sure there is no connection. ....

Mr P and his brother have made some drastic turns in their lives, hope it all works out.
Blame the eschatology.

That is usually disasterous.

I am not saying that is the case here because I personally know very little about this pastor and church. I do know he was held in high regard by his ultra con brothers before he changed and that I have really enjoyed the handful of sermons I have listened to over the last year or so.
Steve Pixler answered this concern in his August bog: https://stevepixler.wordpress.com/20...r-the-journey/
