Austin Fire Department officials said Monday morning that a fire that has indefinitely closed Saccone’s Pizza on U.S. 183, a popular place to get New Jersey-style pizza in North Austin, caused $300,000 in damages.
The fire started in the kitchen of the eatery early Sunday morning, AFD spokeswoman Dawn Clopton said, but the cause is still under investigation.
Daniel Saccone, the owner, said someone broke into his restaurant sometime after midnight, stole money “and then torched it.”
The fire at the restaurant at 13812 U.S. 183 also caused smoke and water damage at a nail salon and a vacant storefront in the strip shopping center near RM 620.

Danny boy!
It is truly a sad... SAD day...
The the mecca of NY Pizza in Austin... O how this pains me so!
I may shed a tear... please bow your head with me in a moment of silence!
I'm truly sad for Dan Saccone. I've had a few very pleasant conversations with the man about his business and his saintly pizza. I'll be praying for him and his nearest restaurant to me...
*cough*
Thankfully they have two other restaurants in the area... I'll just have to drive longer to get to them... It's worth it though.
