our news...can you read it? Portuguese...

At least 12 dead in Kenya church fire - witnesses
NAIROBI (Reuters) - At least a dozen people died in a fire in an Assemblies of God church in western Kenya on Tuesday as post-election violence swept the east African nation, witnesses said.
"I saw about 10 to 15 bodies crammed in a corner. They were charred, I could not look at the scene twice," one local reporter who visited the scene told Reuters from Eldoret town.

"There was a part of the church where I could not access but the death toll could be about 25."

The reporter said about 200 people were seeking refuge at the church, about 8 km (5 miles) from Eldoret, fleeing tribal clashes after President Mwai Kibaki's disputed re-election on Sunday.

He said the victims were mostly Kikuyus from Kibaki's ethnic group, who fled homes in the area in fear of their lives.

"Some youths came to the church. They fought with the boys who were guarding it, but they were overpowered and the youths set fire to the church," he said.

Another local journalist in Eldoret who spoke to witnesses said about 30 bodies lay in the Kenya Assemblies of God church.

Four bodies lay outside, he said.

The area in Rift Valley Province suffered tribal clashes in 1992 and 1997 when hundreds of people -- mainly Kikuyus -- were killed and thousands displaced in fighting over land.

The missionary that showed the film said something I will never forget, "during those days christians did not ask each other what church they were from, they just tried to survive as christians...and the church multiplied and real love as never before helped them grow as never before in the mist of death and suffering."

Today we are praying for Kenya do not forget to pray..."thy kingdom come thy will be done ON EARTH as in heaven.
Sister Alvear,
Bro. Tucker, of whom you speak, was beaten to death, and his body was fed to the crocodiles. Such a tragedy. His favorite verse was, "Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone. But, if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit."

We have a young couple from the Congo who have been attending our church for a couple of months now. They received the Holy Ghost on Christmas Sunday and we baptized them in water last Sunday!

Anyone who has ever suffered for the faith or been oppressed by the powerful can carry on a conversation and feel a bond with those that have suffered...America knows so little about these things...

This situation is so volatile; it's so much like what happened when the Rwanda genocide began. It was also a tribal war between the Hutus and the Tutsi's. These things get so out of hand so quickly. The unemployment rate is about 85% in Kenya, so the people are bored and easily incited to rioting. Idle hands definitely are dangerous!!!

I think I know where that Assembly of God church in Eldoret is. I think it's right on the main drag that we drove every day. It just makes me very sad to know this is going on, and I can't hear from most of our pastors. We have about 20 Love and Truth Churches in this region of Kenya, plus more across the border in Uganda. God help them all!!!

Wow Sherri!

What are you all going to do? It does not appear safe at all. I can not imagine living in all that turmoil.

God help Kenya!
