Seems that you two are on the same page, but the fact is that DramaQueen already stated that there is a UPC churcher closer that did not seem to have offered. One thing I know from experience is that some help and some don't. The point of having a fellowship -even though it is more like an organization- is to have someone there to be the family and help in the need of a crisis. Obviosly we can not know for sure if the UPC church did or did not offer. One thing we can say is the AG church did and they are not as close and not part of the fellowship/family. They are part of the body of Christ but what about the family? It says great things about the AG churches leadership and view of the body. It is just sad to me that if you are close enough to another church of the same organization and are not the first ones to ask to assist. IMO
I am not sure the other UPC building that is close would have been large enough.

Good job, Jeanie - I think most everyone overlooked this exciting aspect of the initial post!
I think I can safely say I didn't overlook it... I wasn't the first one posting afterward about the UPC's not being there for their fellow church. I did however, decide to speak up.

The difference is you are a business. The church is not supposed to be a business. It is here to save souls. There should be no competition between churches. The church is not the pastor's it belongs to God.

You are correct! Unfortunately, reality shows that many (if not most) times there is indeed competition with a nearby church in the same organization. Every pastor wants, or should want, his church to be the largest and most successful church in the area. It's just human nature to be competitve. It's the elephant in the room folks want to ignore.
This may not be the case in the Jackson situation.
This is my first @ posting a comment, but I feel I must. I know for a fact that the pastor of the UPC church 2 blocks away...was the first on the scene to offer any assistance. The District Supt., was there when the offer was made. The AG church is just ascroos the street, and much more convient. "Kudos" to Pastor Cliff Walker, and the Calvary Church (UPC).
