Consider that TV Guide rated the Mary Tyler Moore episode Chuckles Bites the Dust, where Chuckles the Clown gets killed by an elephant in a parade, the funniest single episode of any TV show, and you get the idea.

That was a funny episode...

He had not been able to have much of an influence in his grandsons life because his ex-wife raised the boy, and she is a very bitter woman (she had an affair and left him over 40 years ago, but is still hateful to this day?).
Michael was found in a motel room dead of an apparent overdose on his 24th birthday. It was just an unbelievably tragic thing.
The actual funeral was at the mortuary chapel, and my brother officiated the service.

I do recall the prayer request. That is such a sad story especially how bitterness doesn't only effect the person carrying it, but also effects others.
My uncle died of an overdose at the age of 27 and that was a horrifically sad funeral--I still get a stomach ache thinking of it--I was like 11 yrs old at the time.

When my daddy passed, my six brothers had a 'board meeting' after the wake at a local coney island where they all used to hang out.
They were going to carry daddy, and every one of them had a bad shoulder...age or sports injury or something. So they had the meeting to decide which side to take...my two eldest nephews were cautioned to stand by in case of an emergency.
At this all important meeting, they also decided that as the only daughter and oldest child, I would follow them up the hill to the grave.
Well...when we got to the cemetary, the boys were standing there ready to carry our father...only one problem...they were all on the wrong side!!
They had to stop, push daddy back in the hearse, change sides and try again...it was a sight!!
When they finally got it right, they ran so fast with him, I couldn't catch up...
You should hear them tell the story when they are all together...

The really beautiful thing about this story is that my brother was able to give a moving and relevant thought without trying to put Michael in Heaven or Hell.
He just talked about how God is our refuge in the time of storm, and how there are some situations that we will never understand, but we can always trust Jesus to be our rock.
I really believe that everyone there was comforted.

Yeah, that was another thing, I couldn't believe a couple of the pall bearers, they were wearing jeans, and I'm not talking nice dress jeans. These were old, worn looking jeans. I understand not everybody has a suit, but for goodness sake, I can't believe that these were the nicest pairs of pants these guys owned. They could have gone to Goodwill and bought a nicer pair for $4.00. Sad.
