This reminds me of the story about the girl who wanted to learn to cook a ham. Her mother told her to get a certain size pan, cut the end of the ham off, put the topping on, cover it and bake it. When she asked why she should cut the end off since the ham fit in the pan without being cut, the mother said, "Because that's what MY mother always did". Well, the daughter wanted to know why that was, so she went to her Grandma and asked her. Grandma said, "Because that's the way MY mother did it". So the girl went to great-grandma and asked her why she cut the end of the ham off before she baked it. Great grandma answered her --------"because it wouldn't fit in my pan if I didn't"
